Year 2017 is Danwaon Kim Hong-Do’s 272th birth year and also 226th year, he had been in Yunpoong- Hyeongam. Danwon Kim Hong- Do is a person who had been both artist and government officer at the same time which is hard to be at that time. As a government officer, he has been Chalbang officer in Ahn-dong city, Ahn-ki area, and Yunpoong-Hyeongam in Chungcheong-do, Goesan-gun. Also, he was rewarded by Great King Jung-Jo, by drawing his portrait, he was assigned to be Yunpoong-Hyeongam in 1791 December 22nd and served until 1795 January 7th, for three years. Formal studies about Danwon Kim Hong- Do is about his artistic skills and his painting, but his history as in government officer and his work during the time are very marginal until now. Also, there are insufficient amount of research data and studies about his ethical consciousness as government officer. This study is not only about his art or his artistic skill, however this study is also about proving his ethical consciousness as in government officer. These are the thee point. 2017년은 단원 김홍도 탄신 272년이 되는 해이고 연풍현감에 제수된 지 226년 이 된다. 단원 김홍도는 화원(畵員)과 관료(官僚)라는 양립(兩立)하기 어려운 두 역할 을 이루어낸 보기 드문 인물 중 한 사람이다. 관료행적으로는 안동 안기(安奇) 찰방 (察訪)과 충청도(忠淸道) 괴산군(槐山君) 연풍현감(延豊縣監)을 지냈다. 특히 어진도 사(御眞圖師)의 공로를 인정받아 정조(正祖)는 1791년 12월 22일에 연풍현감에 제수 (除授)하였고 1795년 1월 7일 해임까지 약 3년간 재직하였다. 기존에 발표된 단원 김홍도에 대한 연구 성과를 살펴보면 회화작품 연구 위주 이고 그 연구 성과에 비해 단원 김홍도 관료 행적(行蹟)과 치적(治績)에 대한 연구는 미미한 수준에 머무르고 있다. 그리고 그에 따른 연구자료 출간 및 실증적인 자료 소개 의 측면에서의 검토 또한 미흡하고 그가 공직자로서의 윤리의식은 어떠했는지에 대한 연구도 부재하다. 본 논고는 이러한 맥락에서 그간 단원 김홍도 회화작품 위주의 연구에서 벗어나 연풍현감 단원 김홍도 부임 이후의 관료 행적과 치적 및 공정산(公正山) 상암사 중수 기(上菴寺重修記)를 통해 단원 김홍도의 윤리의식을 논증하고자 한다. 아울러 윤리의 식과 연계해서 볼 수 있는 작품도 살펴보고자 한다.
