The development of the chemistry, petroleum, food, and manufacture after the industrialization needed the following development of the factory and facility, accordingly the high-intensity stainless steel highly resistant to corrosion was highlighted as the useful material and began to be used throughout the industry. This study focused on raising the manufacture efficiency by using the mechanical process appropriate for the material property of the stainless steel and on making the product differentiated from the mass-production products by means of the plate technique, a metal processing technique, based on the aesthetic impression. The design development process focused on the function of the tableware and the property of the stainless steel while understanding the concept of the tableware. Also, the tableware expressing the nature of the minimalism that was the theoretical background was made before the production. The plate technique was used as the main technique for the production, and the unique massing and the visual feature of the metal surface were expressed. In the meantime, the manual process such as the welding, riveting, and grinding was carried out. It was possible to raise the manufacture efficiency by means of the laser cutting, spinning, press, and turning. This study intends that minimalistic attributes such as simplicity, clarity, repeatability and reductiveity of minimalism are expressed in tableware.

산업화 이후 화학과 석유, 식품, 제조분야 등의 발달은 그에 따른 공장과 설비의 발달을 필요로 했고 이에 따라 고강도의 내식성이 강한 스테인레스 스틸(Stainless Steel)은 시대적으로 유용한 재료로 부각되어 산업 전반에 걸쳐 사용되기 시작하였다. 이번 연구는 스테인레스 스틸의 재료적 특성과 이해를 바탕으로 그에 적합한 기계 공정을 활용하여 제작 효율을 높이고 심미성을 바탕으로 금속 가공 기법인 판금 기법을 활용하여 양산제품과의 차별성을 지니는 제품을 제작하는 것에 중점을 두었다.디자인 전개과정에서는 테이블웨어의 개념을 이해하고 테이블웨어로서의 기능과 스테인레스 스틸이라는 재료가 지니는 특성에 초점을 두고 진행하였다. 또한, 제작에 앞서 이론적 배경이 되는 미니멀리즘의 특성을 표현한 테이블웨어를 제작하고자 했다. 제작에 이용한 주된 기법으로는 판금 기법을 이용하였으며 특유의 볼륨감과 금속 표면의 시각적 특징을 표현하고자 하였다. 그 과정에서 용접, 리벳접합, 연마작업 등의 수공 과정을 거쳤다. 또한 레이저 커팅(Laser cutting)과 스피닝(Spinning), 프레스(Press), 선반(Turning) 등을 사용해서 제작성의 효율을 높일 수 있었다. 본 연구는 미니멀리즘의 조형적 특징인 단순성과 명료성, 반복성과 환원성 등 미니멀리즘적 속성이 테이블웨어에 표현되도록 의도하였다.
