The purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions and needs of elementary learners of foreign military in Korea and to suggest effective educational plans for them. For this purpose, I confirmed the learners' difficulties due to the differences in language and culture inside and outside the military via questionnaires and focus group interviews. Based on the requirements of the foreign military learners, a modular teaching method using flipped learning was proposed. This teaching method is effective and useful because it can be adapted according to the regular class content or the classroom situation of the foreign military learner. It also provides an opportunity for realistic practice of the actual contents without having to learn only the knowledge level through the phased approach. This can increase the confidence in foreign military learners who live in Korea and do not have many external exchanges and actively participate in class.

본 연구에서는 한국 거주 외국군 초급 학습자들의 언어문화 교육에 대한 인식과 요구를 살피고, 이를 바탕으로 효과적인 교육 방안을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 진행된 설문조사와 포커스 그룹 인터뷰에서 부대 안팎의 언어와 문화의 차이에 대한 학습자들의 어려움을 확인하였고, 언어문화 수업에 대해서는 학습자마다 다양한 요구 사항을 가지고 있음도 확인하였다. 외국군 학습자의 요구를 바탕으로 본고에서 제시하는 언어문화 수업 방식으로는 플립러닝을 활용한 모듈식 수업 방식이다. 이 수업 방식은 외국군 학습자의 정규 수업 내용이나 교실 상황에 맞추어 적절하게 활용될 수 있어 효율성이높고 유용하다. 또한 단계적 접근을 통해 언어문화를 지식 차원으로만 학습하도록 하지 않고 실제성 있는 내용을 직접 활용해 보도록 연습하는 기회를 제공한다는 장점도 가진다. 본고에서 제안하는 수업을 효율적으로 활용할 수 있다면 한국에 거주하고 외부 교류가 많이 없는, 혹은 외부 교류를 두려워하는 외국군 학습자들에게 자신감을 높이고 수업에 적극적으로 참여하게 만들 수 있는 좋은 방안이 될 수 있으리라 본다.
