This study aims to find factors affecting the stability of a caregiver of children with incarcerated parents. Data from 284 pretrial detainees with children under the age of 18 was collected through surveys, and a logistic regression was conducted through a hierarchical analysis to accurately identify the influence of each factor on caregiver stability through odds ratio. Main findings of the study are as follows. First, after the incarceration of a parent, the main changes in a child’s caregiving environment was family separation and severe poverty. Second, the stability of a caregiving environment’s stability depended on the sex of the incarcerated parent, whether the family was dismantled, and the financial supporting role of the incarcerated parent. On the contrary, the age of the incarcerated parent, financial status of the family, and the term of incarceration was not a notable factor. Maternal incarceration and broken families showed to cause most vulnerability in caregiver stability. Third, in an integrated viewpoint, when comparing factors before and after incarceration, factors before incarceration had a larger affect in caregiver stability. Finally, this study discusses institutional approaches to protected child and supported child with how to protect them in a social perspective.

이 연구는 부모가 수용된 후 자녀들의 ‘양육자안정성’에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 찾는데 목적을 두었다. 연구를 위해 18세 이하의 자녀를 둔 미결수용자 284명으로부터 설문조사를 통해 자료를 수집하였고, 로지스틱 회귀분석을 위계적으로 실시하여 독립변인들 별로 ‘양육자안정성’에 대한 영향력을 오즈 승산비(Odds Ratio)를 통해 예측하였다. 연구결과의 주된 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부모의 수용 후 자녀들의 양육환경은 가정해체와 심각한 빈곤이 주된 문제인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 수용자자녀들의 ‘양육자안정성’에 대한 영향력은 수용된 부모의 성, 가정의 해체여부, 수용 전 동거여부, 수용 전 양육비 전담여부가 유의하였다. 반면에 수용된 부모 나이, 가정 경제수준, 수용기간은 영향력이 적었다. 특히 어머니가 수용된 자녀들과 해체된 가정의 자녀들이 ‘양육자안정성’ 면에서 가장 취약하였다. 셋째, 통합적 관점에서 수용 전 요인과 수용 후 요인을 비교할 때, 수용 후 요인보다는 수용 전 요인들이 ‘양육자안정성’에 영향력이 더 있었다. 마지막으로, 이 연구는 수용자자녀들을 제도적으로 지원이 필요한 보호아동 및 지원대상아동으로 논의하고 사회적 보호방안을 제안하였다.
