Sanjo, one of the representative pieces of Korean instrumental music is considered to be the appropriate musical piece for instructing the musical characteristics described in the Music Curriculum, for example, the characteristics of form, jangdan, sigimsae, and timbre. Since the seventh edition of the Music Curriculum, even though sanjo has been included in the music textbooks, the detailed activities or content for the music has not been explained in the texts. Thus, this paper's aim is to organize the most appropriate approaches for appreciating this music by analyzing the contents of the music appreciation of sang into the music textbooks of middle schools. From the analysis, this study found that the aims and activities of the lesson to instruct sanjo were limited, and even the main activity of the musical flow as changed by the hanbae of jangdan was not detailed. Since the contents for understanding the music were only explained in the initial course or by the originators, more exact and detailed contents needed to be added to the explanation of sanjo. Also, some faults in the transcription of sigimsae, gueum, and time signature of the music were found to have been made in the staff notations when sang was written. As a result, this study chose the gayageum sanjo by Kim, Juk-Pa, and presented the appropriate instructional approaches. The contents of the music should be explained in order to understand the social and cultural backgrounds. The learning activities of the music were based on gueum, sigimsae, jangdan, and chuimsae as selected by the Revised Music Curriculum of 2009. Garaksun notation of the lines of the melodies was used as the score for sanjo, and also indicated gueum, jangdan, and the technique of gayageum on the score. From this study, it is expected that the analysis and organization of sanjo will contribute to the qualitative improvement of Korean music education.

국악의 대표적인 민속 기악곡인 ‘산조’는 형식, 장단, 시김새, 음색 등 교육과정에서 제시하는 음악적 특징을 지도하는데 적합한 감상 제재곡이다. 이러한 산조는 제7차 음악과 교육과정부터 음악 교과서에서 언급되고 있었지만, 그 음악의 구체적인 내용 및 활동이 제시되지 않았거나 소홀히 다루어져 왔다. 이에 본 연구는 중학교 음악교과서에 실린 산조 감상 내용의 분석을 통해 더 적합한 지도 내용의 구성방안을 모색하는 데에 목적을 두었다. 교과서의 산조 내용을 분석결과, ‘학습내용(악곡 설명)’은 역사․사회․문화적인 맥락과 음악적 특징에 대해 구체적인 언급이 필요했으며, 학습활동은 다양하지 못하였고 구체적이지 않았다. 또한 악보는 대부분 오선보의 형태였는데 악보의 채보, 시김새, 구음, 박자표 등에서 많은 오류를 찾을 수 있었다. 이러한 분석한 결과를 바탕으로 본 논문은 여러 가지 산조 중 김죽파류 가야금 산조를 선정하여 구성방안을 모색하였다. 2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 음악과 교육과정에서 학습내용, 학습활동, 악보와 관련된 내용을 추출하여 구성방안을 모색하였다. 먼저 학습내용은 사회문화적 배경과 음악적 특징으로 구분하여 요소별로 구분하여 제시하였고, 학습활동은 지도 요소를 추출하여 구음, 장단, 시김새, 추임새, 비교감상 등을 중심으로 구성하였다. 악보는 가락의 흐름을 볼 수 있도록 가락선으로 표시하고 구음보와 정간보 등을 활용하여 구안하였다. 본 연구에서 분석한 산조의 지도 내용과 구성방안이 국악교육의 질적 제고 측면에서 활용될 수 있기 기대한다.
