본 연구는 2005년 지방분권 정책으로 추진한 충북혁신도시의 입지분석을 지리오결의 풍수지리적 관점에서 살펴보았다. 혁신도시는 입지선정지침에 따라 선정된 혁신거점으로서의 발전가능성, 도시개발의 적정성, 지역 내 동반성장 가능성에 맞추어 입지를 선정하였다. 따라서 풍수지리적인 관점인 산세와 주변 환경과의 조화에서 부족한 부분이 노출되었다. 이에 부족하거나 부족한 부분을 보완할 수 있는 비보풍수의 방법으로 허한 부분을 숲으로 비보할 수 있는 방법을 제시하였다. 그리고 혁신도시와 연계하여 지역경제의 활성화를 높일 수 있는 발전방안을 제안하였다. 구체적인 내용을 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아토피치유를 위한 의료관광 리조트형 사업구조 모델을 개발한다. 둘째, 맹동저수지 수변경관을 보고 걷는 자연친화형 국내 최대의 둘레길 트레킹코스를 개발한다. 셋째, 지역생산물을 활용한 지역특화 생활용품을 개발한다. 그리고 도시개발이나 도시계획 시에 주변의 산세와 지형을 환경적인 측면과 함께 고려할 수 있는 풍수지리의 입지선정을 활용하면 사람이 자연과 함께 공생(공존)할 수 있는 친환경적인 도시개발이 가능할 것이다.
