This article suggests a developmental method to improve art education in Korea in which theory and practice are divided: art education as theory andpractice as art world genres like painting, sculpture, ceramics, oriental painting, etc. The practice of art education in Korean art textbooks is first introduced from the art education practices that emerged in Europe and in the USA, where new practices are increasingly being added. This means thepractice of art education is fundamentally different from that of the practicing artist or artist in training. For this reason, the Foundation Course for Primary School Art is the required curriculum to teach design education in which design elements and principles are the basic core knowledge, as well as Bauhaus practices. This course follows the Development Course for Primary School Art to teach multicultural art education, visual culture education, ecological art education, and intertextuality in art, which can identify art in education by distinguishing art education and art teaching for the practicing artist.

이 글에서는 이론과 실기로 나뉘면서 교과교육의 정상화가 이루어지지 않고 있는 우리나라 미술교육 의 현황을 확인하면서 이에 대한 개선 방법을 제시하였다. 우리나라 미술교육의 실기는 그 시작부터 유럽과 미국의 미술교육의 실기들이 도입되었으며 여기에 새로운 이론에서 도출된 실기들이 다시 첨 가되는 양상이다. 이 점은 학교 미술의 실기와 일반 미술계의 실기가 근본적으로 다른 것임을 말하는 것이다. 따라서 미술교육에서 가장 기본이 되는 조형요소와 원리의 디자인교육 및 바우하우스의 입체 교육 등을 포함하는 “초등미술교육 기초실기”와 다문화미술교육, 시각문화교육, 생태미술교육, 상호텍 스트성의 미술 등 현대미술교육에서 구체화된 실기들을 가르치기 위한 “초등미술교육 심화실기”의 강 좌가 개설되어 미술교육의 교육과정의 정상화를 도모하면서 미술가 교육과 구별되는 교사양성을 위 한 미술교육과의 정체성을 강화시켜야 할 것이다.
