This paper argues for a platform where we can discuss the value of art education in the digital era. It mainly proposes the “humanistic value” of art education as a way to enhance the “spirituality” of art education. The change of technological landscape cause necessary changes in art education. However, art education should not be subordinated to the technological advancement. Rather, art education is confronted with impending tasks. To achieve this aim, this paper discusses a new wave of change, the stagnation of art education, and five unanswered question about the value of art education. Following these arguments, the spirituality of art education and the humanistic value of art education is defined and elaborated. Finally, the connection between artistic experiences and the spiritual engagement is highlighted as one of the rationales for art education to keep up with the 4th Industry Revolution. Giving anthropology and philosophy a larger role in art education, this paper propose further research on the origin of humankind and ways of living as a hub of art expression and appreciation.
