This research delves into the case of the Christian Liberal Art Education at Soongsil University and the theory of Paul Tillich in order to suggest the theoretical basis for creativity and ethics education. To begin with, this study deals with the current situation of Christian Liberal Arts Education about major Christian Universities in Korea as a preceding research. Secondly, a case study is conducted based on “the 2016 lecture evaluation of ” at Soongsil University as it analyzes the pros and cons of Christian Liberal Arts Eduction at Soongsil University. In addition, this research proposes a theoretical foundation of Christian Liberal Arts Education in terms of Tillich's ontological understandings of humanity. He argues that the basis of culture, ethics, and religion is related to the signification of self-creativity, self-integration, and self-transcendence. Lastly, this study applies Tillich analysis of human existence into the practice of Christian Liberal Arts Education.

본 연구는 창의성과 윤리 교육을 위한 이론적인 틀을 모색하기 위해서 기독교철학자 폴 틸리히의 존재론을 그 이론적인 바탕으로 숭실대학교 기독교대학교육과목의 사례를 통해서 연구하였다. 다시 말해서 본 연구는 기독교교양과목에 대한 현상에 대한 이해와 이론적/철학적 토대를 제안하기 위해서 틸리히의 존재론을 교양과목에 적용할 것을 제안하였다. 우선 저자는 선행연구의 차원에서 현재 기독교대학들의 교양교육 현황에 대해서 고찰한 후에, 현재 숭실대학교 기독교교양과목이 어떠한 방향으로 진행되고 있는지에 대해서 고찰하였다. 이를 위해서 저자는 한국에서 역사가 오래된 기독교 사립대학 중에 하나인 숭실대학교 학생들의 2016년도 강의평가를 기초자료로 살펴보았다. 이 자료를 토대로 저자는 숭실대학교에서 이루어지고 있는 기독교교양교육의 장단점에 대해서 분석하였다. 저자는 숭실대학교의 사례를 살핀 후에, 현재 기독교교양과목이 방법론 중심으로 흐르고 있는 현실에 대한 대안으로 그 이론적인 토대를 폴 틸리히의 존재론을 중심으로 살피고 있다. 폴 틸리히는 존재론적인 차원에서 문화와 윤리와 종교의 기초를 자아-창의성, 자아-통합, 그리고 자아-초월의 차원에서 설명하였다. 끝으로 저자는 틸리히의 이와 같은 존재이해를 어떤 방향에서 기독교교양과목을 이끌어갈 수 있는지, 그 방법에 대해서 제안하고 있다.
