The purpose of this paper is to explore how to use the Korean contemporary poetry about Donghak in the field of character education. The ideology inherent in works about Donghak is also contributed to educational contents such as character education which has emerged as the task of the recent times. It is expected that it will contribute to the expansion of the literary works and the expansion of the Donghak. The subject of this study is the work of Donghak in material and subject in modern Korean poetry. Shin Dong-yeop is well-known as a poet who created works based on Donghak. His works include short poems such as Geumgang. All the poems on『Songs for Hwang Tae-hyun』are related to Donghak. The research method focuses on exploring the possibilities of using them as contents of character education such as the theme of the works and the artist consciousness. The results of the study are as follows. The destination of the reading act is not predetermined, nor is its result evaluated as success or failure. Here, poetry forms a loop that can function as the content of character education. In modern poetry about Donghak, values of horizontal thinking of equality of human rights, flexibility, mutual respect and open possibility were realized. They have the same context as character education and proved the possibility of application of poetry as a content of character education.

이 논문의 목적은 동학을 소재로 한 한국 현대시 작품의 인성교육 현장에서의 활용 방안을 탐구하는 것이다. 동학 작품에 내재한 사상은 최근의 시대적 과제로 대두한 인성 교육 등에도 교육 콘텐츠로서 기여도가 높다. 동학 소재 시를 인성교육 콘텐츠로서의 가능성을 모색하는 것은 문학 작품의 활용 방안을 확대하고 동학의 외연 확장에도 기여할 것으로 기대된다. 이 연구의 대상은 한국 현대시 작품에서 동학을 소재나 주제로 한 작품이다. 동학을 소재로 작품을 창작한 시인으로는 잘 알려진 신동엽 등이 있고, 작품으로는 <금강>을 비롯한 단편 시들이 있다. 『황토현에 부치는 노래』에 수록된 시들은 모두 동학과 관련된 작품들이다. 연구 방법으로는 이들 작품의 주제나 작가의식 등의 인성교육 콘텐츠로서 활용 가능성을 모색하는 것에 중점을 둔다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 독서 행위의 목적지가 미리 정해지지도 않으며, 그것의 결과가 성공이나 실패로 평가되지도 않는다. 여기에서 시 텍스트가 인성 교육의 콘텐츠로 기능할 수 있는 고리를 형성한다. 동학 소재의 현대시 작품들에서 인내천의 수평적 사고, 유연함, 상호 존중, 열린 가능성 등의 가치가 구현되었다. 이들은 인성 교육과 같은 맥락이며 인성 교육 콘텐츠로서의 동학 소재 시의 활용 가능성을 확인하였다.
