This paper aims to examine the historical conditions and limitations that we face through analytical consideration on postmodern world, posthuman and transhumanism, and foresee the future of Homo sapiens, and furthermore extract the conditions for successful implementation to posthuman from the characteristics of Donghak Thought. Today, human beings are replacing natural selection with intelligent designs due to the rapid development of artificial intelligence. Postmodern discourse implies a fundamental change in the modern Western world view and its value system, and focuses on establishing alternative societies for coexistence. Transhumanism is a concept associated with the advent of posthuman whose intelligent, physical limitations are overcomed and whose body is reinforced due to the advancement of science and technology, and understands the replacement of Homo sapiens by posthuman as the current progressive ‘events’. Homo sapiens is not the end of human evolution and evolution continues. To survive games with unconscious intelligence, we must take a positive turn to change the pattern of consciousness itself and upgrade our minds. Donghak’s holistic thinking system could lead to a new era of enlightenment along with successful implementation to posthuman, and in the true sense of the word, gives directions to the road to ‘Homo Deus’.

본 연구는 포스트모던 세계와 포스트휴먼 그리고 트랜스휴머니즘에 대한 분석적 고찰을 통해 우리가 처한 역사적 조건과 한계적 상황을 살펴보고, 호모 사피엔스의 미래를 전망하며, 나아가 포스트휴먼으로의 성공적인 이행을 위한 조건을 동학의 사상적 특성에서 추출해보기 위한 것이다. 오늘날 인공지능의 급속한 발달로 인류는 자연선택을 지적설계로 대체하고 있다. 포스트모던 담론은 근대 서구의 세계관과 가치체계의 근본적인 변화를 함축하고 있으며 공존의 대안사회 마련에 주안점을 둔다. 트랜스휴머니즘은 과학기술의 발전으로 지능적, 육체적 한계가 극복되고 인체가 강화된 포스트휴먼의 등장과 접합된 개념으로 포스트휴먼에 의한 호모 사피엔스의 대체를 현재진행형인 ‘사건’으로 이해한다. 호모 사피엔스가 인류 진화의 종착역은 아니며 진화는 지금도 계속되고 있다. 우리가 비의식적 지능과의 게임에서 살아남으려면 의식의 패턴 자체를 바꾸고 마음을 업그레이드하는 일에 적극 나서야 한다. 동학의 통섭적 사유체계는 포스트휴먼으로의 성공적인 이행과 더불어 새로운 계몽의 시대로 안내할 수 있을 것이며, 진정한 의미에서 ‘호모 데우스’로 가는 길을 제시한다.
