The purpose of this study is to summarize the aesthetic features of his prose by statistically examining materials and subjects of Kim, Hak-cheol's prose. Kim, Hak-cheol gives the impression that he repeatedly uses similar contents by using a composition of a leisurely folktale that selects and lists various materials related to the subject in his anti-Japanese experience, reading contents and surrounding reality. And the prose of Kim, Hak-cheol criticizes the absurd and corrupt reality such as the violence of power and censorship system, and mocks those human beings who are full of false and framing others. It is a leisurely folktale way in organizing the prose that he consciously considers censorship while writing his prose with strong political and editorial characters which criticize the reality of China. In his prose that he wrote on the last Christmas eve of the 20th century, he hoped that a novel era would take place in the new century while Kim, Hak-cheol spent a century in anti-Japanese struggle and political oppression. This shows his desire for a society in which the freedom of the press can be expressed directly without indirectly expressing a subject in a leisurely folktale manner. However, Kim, Hak-cheol died in the autumn of 2001, and he did not see a new world in which he wanted to write what he wanted to write and wanted to live according to his wishes.

본고는 김학철의 산문의 제재와 주제를 통계적으로 살펴 그의 산문이 갖는 미적 특징을정리하는 데 목적이 있다. 김학철은 자신의 항일 체험과 독서 내용 그리고 주변 현실에서 주제와 관련되는 다양한 제재를 선택하여 나열하는 한담설화식 구성을 사용하여 유사한 내용을반복하여 사용한다는 느낌을 준다. 그리고 김학철의 산문은 주로 권력의 폭력성과 검열 제도등 부조리하고 부패한 현실을 비판하고 허위에 가득차고 타인을 모함하는 인간들을 조롱한다. 그가 중국의 현실을 비판하는 정치논설적인 성격이 강한 산문을 집필하면서 검열을 의식하여선택한 산문의 구성 방식이 한담설화식 구성이라 하겠다. 김학철은 20세기 마지막 크리스마스이브에 쓴 것이라 밝힌 산문에서 항일투쟁과 정치적억압 속에서 지낸 한 세기를 보내면서 새로운 세기에는 참신한 시대가 열릴 것을 염원한 바있다. 이는 자신이 말하고자 하는 주제를 한담설화식으로 에둘러 이야기하지 않고 직접 표현할 수 있는 즉 언론의 자유가 보장된 사회에 대한 염원을 보여준다. 그러나 김학철은 2001년가을에 운명함으로써 자신이 기원한 바, 자신이 쓰고 싶은 것을 쓰고 자신이 원하는 바대로살 수 있는 새로운 세상은 보지 못하고 말았다.
