We investigate substitution between fixed access and wireless access subscribers in the telephone services based on a generalized multi-product diffusion model extending the diffusion models by Casado-L'opez-S'anchez(1996) and Noguchi and Takashima(2000). Our results indicate strong differences in the diffusion processes of the two service subscribers: non-existence of the imitation effect in the diffusion of the fixed access subscribers versus existence of the limitation effect in the diffusion of the wireless access subscribers; existence of the innovation effect both in the diffusion of the fixed access subscribers and the diffusion of the wireless access subscribers; complementary effect of the wireless access subscribers on the number of new subscribers to the fixed telephony versus weak and small substitution effect of the fixed access subscribers on the number of new subscribers to the wireless access service; and a larger potential market size for the wireless access service than the market size for the fixed telephony.
