We analyzed the effects of the socioeconomic characteristics of each age groups on the poverty entry and exit issue in Korea using the 2002~2004 KLIPS (Korean Labor and Income Panel Survey) data. The purpose of this paper lies in examining how the household and individual specific socioeconomic characteristics such as age, gender, education, marital status as well as job status exert influence on the poverty status transitions(entry and exit) of the Korean households. While the implications of each characteristics on poverty status transitions differ among each age groups, it seems that creating lots of decent job opportunities for all age groups and increasing occupational capabilities according to the characteristics of each age group would be a desirable solution for the ease of pressing poverty issue in Korea.
