This work has attempted to elucidate the structures and themes of the book of Isaiah with a view to helping pastors to preach the Isaianic texts in a rich way. One of the reasons that many pastors have difficulties in proclaiming the messages of Isaiah on the pulpit is a distorted understanding that the book of Isaiah is arranged like a hopeless hodgepodge. With this in mind, our first attention has been drawn to the structures of the book of Isaiah, and then it is argued that the book of Isaiah is demarcated into three macro-units: chapters 1-39, 40-55, and 56-66. The structure of the chapters 1-39 displays the pattern as follows: judgement on Judah--judgement on nations--restoration of Zion in the eschaton. The chapters 40-55 conveys the structure which shows how the Judean community in the exilic period will be restored to Zion. In particular, the chapters 49-55 indicates a triple structure which repeats the restoration and consummation of Zion through the work of the so called servant of Yahweh(49:1-50:3; 50:4-52:12; 52:13-55:13). More specifically, the servant of Yahweh in 52:13-53:12 serves the function to be the Messiah who plays the definitive role in restoring the people of God to the eschatological Zion. As a result of the Messiah-servant of Yahweh, there occur servants of Yahweh who are modeled on the servant of Yahweh in chapter 53, and they will inherit Zion in the eschaton, putting into practice justice and righteousness. The chapters 56-66 shows the structure which has its focus on demonstrating who is going to be servants of Yahweh who are recipient of the new covenant. Within the framework of these structures, the book of Isaiah has its overarching theme of Zion shining through justice and righteousness. God's original plan was that when His people in Zion practice justice and righteousness, the nations see the light of justice and righteousness and come to Zion to be His children also. Due to the failure of Judah to conform to that plan of God, Judah had to be exiled to Babylon. However, God's ultimate plan is to restore Zion. For this, the book of Isaiah emphasizes that in the eschaton God will make the new covenant with his people, and that those people will be restored to Zion and will do justice and righteousness with the help of the Holy Spirit. The understanding of these structure and themes will facilitate sermons of the book of Isaiah.

본 연구는 한국 강단에서 이사야서를 손쉽게 설교하도록 도움을 주기 위한 목적으로 이사야서의 구조와 주제들을 살폈다. 이사야서가 설교하기 어려운 이유 중 하나는 여러 가지 자료들이 아무렇게나 배열된 것처럼 구조를 찾기가 힘들기 때문이다. 구조가 없이 뒤죽박죽이라는 선입관 때문에 문맥의 흐름을 파악하지 못하고 설교자는 우왕좌왕한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 설교자를 위해 이사야서는 1-39장과 40-55장, 그리고 56-66장이라는 세 개의 대단락으로 이루어졌음을 밝혔다. 그리고 1-39장은 유다의 심판-열국의 심판-메시아의 출현-시온의 회복의 구도가 반복되는 구조임을 주장했다. 40-55장은 유다의 심판으로 바벨론에 포로로 끌려간 사람들을 향해 그들이 어떻게 시온으로 회복될 것인지를 제시하는 구조임을 설명했다. 특별히 49-55장은 여호와의 종을 통해 시온이 회복될 것이라는 설득이 세 번 반복되었음을 주장했다(49:1-50:3; 50:4-52:12; 52:13-55:13). 여기서 52:13-53:12에서 언급된 고난 받는 여호와의 종은 메시아로서 시온의 회복에서 결정적 열활을 하고 있음을 제시했다. 53장의 고난 받는 여호와의 종의 사역으로 여호와의 종들이 출현하고, 이들이 새 언약의 수혜자가 되어 종말의 시온에 거하게 될 것이다. 56-66장은 누가 그런 여호와의 종들이 되어 새 언약의 백성이 될 것인지를 설명하는 구조로 되어 있다. 이런 구조 속에서 이사야서를 포괄하는 전체 주제는 시온이 공의와 의로 빛나는 것임을 밝혔다. 원래 하나님은 시온을 공의와 의로 빛나게 하여 그 빛을 바라보고 열국이 찾아와서 열국도 하나님의 자녀가 되게 하는 계획을 세우셨다. 하지만 유다는 탐욕으로 인해 공의와 의에 눈과 귀를 닫고 어둠에 거하는 맹인과 귀머거리로 전락했다. 그 결과 하나님은 그들에게 흑암의 심판을 내려 바벨론에 포로로 끌려가게 하셨다. 어둠을 좋아하는 그들에게 어둠에 갇히는 심판을 내린 셈이다. 하지만 하나님의 계획은 심판이 아니라 회복에 있기 때문에, 종말에 새 언약을 체결하여 시온을 회복하고 다시 공의와 의로 빛나는 곳으로 만드실 것이다. 여기서 시온에 거하는 자는 여호와의 종들이다. 이들이 성령을 받아 공의와 의로 빛나게 되는 것이다. 이런 신학적 주제들의 큰 그림들을 염두에 둔다면, 설교자는 이사야의 구조에서 드러난 문맥 안에서 이사야서가 주장하는 논리대로 설교 대지를 이끌어 풍성한 메시지를 전달할 수 있다.
