Previous studies have interpreted the poetry and works of Kim Si-Seup in terms of his complaint of King Sejo’s usurpation and his subject’s betrayal. This study aims at approaching to the works of Kim Si-Seup from other perspective. While focusing on the openness, disruptiveness, and creativeness of the thoughts of Kim Si-Seup, this study try to explore the space-time related meaning of them. After reviewing some recent papers written from different perspective, the meaning and value of Kim’s works including <‘Chwiyu-Boobyuckjeong-Gi’> were discussed, at first, from the viewpoint of communication in relation to the concept of heterotopia. Boobyuckjeong in Pyoungyang, the background of the ancient novel, has been interpreted to have the meaning relevant to heterotopia which has made the characters recall the history of the ancestors and the impermanence of human life. The major characters(‘Hong Saeng’ and ‘Kissinyu’) made a fantastic meeting and shared emotions truthfully overcoming space-time barriers, and made a good example showing human communication could be more expansive and boundless by implicating hopeful prospect for their continuous meeting. As a clue for solving the communication problems in modern society, this study has suggested that the meaning and self-reflection opportunity given by the places encountered in life should be highlighted in communication, and that sharing emotions wholeheartedly and feeling empathy across time-space borders, aided by ’shinmyoung’ emotion, should be a goal of communication.

기존의 연구들에서 김시습과 그의 시나 소설에 대해 해석할 때는 세조의 왕위 찬탈과 신하들의 변절 행태에 대한 김시습의 불만, 분노, 회한을 바탕 정서로 삼는 경우가많았다. 이 연구는 김시습의 작품이 갖는 의미를 좀 더 다른 관점에서 주목해 보고자한 것이다. 김시습이 갖는 사고의 개방성, 파격성, 참신성 같은 데 주목하되 이것이 갖는 시공간적 소통의 의미에 초점을 맞춰 들여다보고자 했다. 논의는 먼저, <취유부벽정기>를 중심으로 김시습의 작품을 기존의 흐름과 일부 다르게 해석하는 기존 연구들 중, 최근의 몇 가지를 검토해 본 후, 김시습의 작품이 그동안 주목 받지 못했다고 본 소통의 관점으로 그 가치와 미학을 논해 보았다. <취유부벽정기>의 배경인 평양 부벽정은역사를 거슬러 회고와 회상에 젖게 하면서 현세의 무상함과 부박함을 성찰하게 할 수있는 헤테로토피아 성격을 갖는다고 할 수 있다. 이러한 장소에서 만난 홍생과 기씨녀는 시공간과 남녀의 벽을 넘어 정신적 교감, 일체감을 나누는 환상의 만남을 이루었고또 계속 이어갈 것이라는 희망을 갖게 하면서 시공간을 초월하는 소통의 가능성과 폭을넓혀 주었다고 할 수 있다. 이에 비추어 <취유부벽정기>에서 우리 사회가 소통의 문제를 풀어가는 데 취할 단서나 시사점을 찾아본다면, 공간과 장소가 주는 의미와 성찰의기회를 소통에 반영하고, 신명을 살려 시공간의 벽을 뛰어 넘는 진정한 교감, 공감을 이루는 것이 소통의 길이자 지향점일 수 있겠다는 점이다.
