It is traditionally described that the Spanish adverb siquiera is a compoundword derived fromtwo independent elements si and quiera: the former si is a conditional conjunction and the later quiera is a third person singular present subjunctive form of the verb querer(cf. RAE 2014). The adverb siquiera has been extensively discussed in the literature on negative polarity, but there is no sufficient analysis of the use in non-negative contexts without the particle ni. We will show that the focus adverb siquiera is licensed as a modal polarity item in non-negative modal contexts and denotes a minimal value with respect to the universal quantification because this element has etymologically a universal concessiveness(cf. Haspelmath and König 1998) and bears a morphological information related to the modality(cf. Bosque 1999; 2002; Fábregas 2014).

전통적으로 스페인어의 부사 siquiera는 조건 접속사 si와 동사 querer의 접속법 현재 3인칭 단수형의 합성어로 널리 알려져 있으며(cf. RAE 2014) 주로 부정의 의미를 갖는 요소인 ni와 함께 부정극어로의 연구가 많이 이루어져 왔지만, ni의 동반이 이루어지지 않고 긍정의 맥락에서 사용되는 용법에 대한 연구는 그리 많이 이루어지지 않았다. 본 연구는 스페인어의 부사 siquiera는 양태성을 갖는 비부정적 맥락에서 초점의 부사로 작용하면서 최소성의 의미를 드러내는 양태성 극어로 작용하는 현상을 살펴보고 이러한 용법이 가능한 이유로 siquiera가 어원적으로 전칭적 양보성을 가지는 점(cf. Haspelmath and Konig 1998)과 더불어 siquiera의 어휘 합성과정에 참여하는 quiera가 양태성과 관련된 형태론적 굴절정보를 갖는다는 사실(cf. Bosque 1999; 2002; Fabregas 2014)임을 증명하고자 한다.
