This study investigates the change in city management through the move of king in the late Joseon. Until now, many studies about Seoul in this era have been done in various as-pects. Them they have helped to improve the understanding about changes of Seoul. How-ever, Peculiarities of seoul as city have not been much as interested as it should have been. That is, the axis of Seoul is the king and the palace. Derived from this fact, they has had a huge impact on city management. Ths move of king is also same. Like many other studies have been pointed out, the move of king was a major factor at that political situation. Bur considering particularity of Seoul, the process of the move of the king and the changes in city management should be noted. Based on this awareness, this writing contemplates the move of Royal Guard soldiers, Fortress Wall of seoul gate and road system including the move of authorities. Those factors are necessary to be accompanied by king‘s move and also for national administration. It is assumed that those kind of alterations substantially affected city and people’s life.

이 연구는 조선 후기 국왕의 移御를 통해서 나타나는 도시 운용의 변화 문제를 살펴본 것이다. 지금까지 조선 후기 서울에 대해서는 여러 부면에서 많은 연구들이 진행되었고, 이를 통해 변화된 서울의 모습에 대해서 이해를 갖게 되었다. 단, 서울이라는 도시가 갖는 특수성에 대해서는 많은 관심을 기울이지 못하였다. 즉 서울이라는 도시의 축은 국왕, 그리고 궁궐이라는 점이며, 이로 인해 국왕이나 궁궐의 운영은 서울이라는 도시의 운용에 많은 영향을 끼쳤다. 국왕의 이어 역시 마찬가지이다. 지금까지 많은 선행 연구에서 지적되고 있는 바와 같이, 국왕의 이어는 당시의 정국 상황이 주요한 요인이었다. 그러나 서울이라는 도시의 특수성을 고려해본다면 이어 과정이나 이어 후 국정 수행 과정에서 나타나는 도시 운용의 변화는 주목해야하는 부분이다. 이 글은 이러한 문제의식에서 국왕의 이어에 수반되는 관청의 이전을 비롯해 숙위 병력의 이동, 도성문의 운영과 도로 체계 등을 고찰하였다. 이 같은 요소들은 국왕의 이어에 필수적으로 수반되는 부분이며, 국왕의 생활은 물론이고 국정 수행 및 숙위를 위해 필요한 것이다. 이러한 변화는 서울이라는 도시의 모습과 사람들의 생활에 상당한 영향을 미쳤을 것으로 판단된다.
