The harmful effects of global neoliberal capitalism has brought about the groaning of the disadvantaged all over the world. Economists argue that in the midst of these harmful effects we can imagine a different economic model unlike the model based on the proposition that all individuals make reasonable choice brought by classical capitalism. Thus Kathryn Tanner recognizing contemporary capitalism, draws from the essence of theology to imagine a new model. The Trinitarian God gives us capital goods of grace with its Three Persons’ overflowing love: unconditionally, universally, non-competitive relationships between offerors and recipients. This new form of exchange does not require sacrifice. In this way, we can be generous with the goods given by God, in imitation of God’s gratuitous way. That is the economy of grace: Tanner’s theological economy. Her model allows us to think of economic exchange theologically. It also suggests a concrete alternative which compensates for the weakness of the present economic models. It hints at universal welfare, the formation of public properties (instead of private properties), and a combination of the present form of capitalism with Keynesianism. This paper engages these with Tanner’s proposed relationship between theology and economy. It also describes her model of theological economy ;an economy of grace. It then details out three economic rules based on the principles of grace, of unconditional giving, and the principle of noncompetinon (that is, non-marketable goods and non-competitive possession and use.) Finally, this paper addresses the contributions and limits of her theological economic model.

전 지구적 신자유주의의 폐해로 국내외의 사회적 약자들이 신음하고있다. 이런 폐해 속에서 경제학자들은 모든 개인은 합리적인 선택을 할 수있다는 고전적 자본주의의 가정에 기초한 자유주의식 자본주의와는 다른경제 모델을 상상할 수 있다고 주장한다. 이에 캐트린 테너는 현재의 자본주의의 시스템을 인정하면서도 새로운 모델을 상상하기 위해 신학 내부에서 그 원리를 가져온다. 삼위일체 하나님은 세 위격의 넘치는 사랑으로 우리에게 모든 자본(은혜)을 조건 없이, 보편적으로 주셨고, 시혜자와 수혜자의 희생 없이 비경쟁적인 방식으로 주신다. 이에 우리도 하나님이 주신 것을 하나님을 모방하며 나눠야 한다는 것이 테너의 신학적 경제 모델인 은혜의 경제이다. 그녀의 경제모델은 기독교인들이 경제를 부차적으로 생각하는 데에서 벗어나서 신학의 본질적인 관심임을 알게 해주고, 현 경제모델을 보완할 수 있는 구체적인 대안을 제시한다. 그녀는 선택적 복지가 아닌 보편적 복지를, 사적인 재화 보다는 공공재의 형성을, 현재의 자본주의와 케인스식 경제이론과의 결합을 제안했다. 이를 위해서 본 소고에서는테너의 신학과 경제의 관계에 대한 문제제기, 테너가 주장한 은혜의 경제, 은혜의 경제 원칙에 근거한 세 가지 실행 세칙들(무조건적인 공급, 비경쟁성의 원리, 비시장재와 비경쟁적 소유와 사용)에 대해서 기술한 후, 테너의경제론의 공헌과 한계점을 살펴볼 것이다.
