Korea faces are a huge challenge with longer lifetimes and low birthrates, so these faces brings about placing old man in a nursing center. And Korean funeral culture has changed because the place of a funeral gradually changed from one's home to a funeral hall, and because of promoting funeral director. Christian funeral ritual is changed inevitably today in Korea too. It is the most important in practical theology. This is because the funeral practices express the enduring faith of the church and pastor journeys with congregations that move beyond a death. However, I think all Christian do fear death. It is not easy that Christian receives death in faith. This paper is to discuss Christian funeral practices. In particular, this study introduces Christian worship and pastoral care for the dying in Korea. In order to suggest Christian worship and pastoral care for the dying in detail, therefore, this article presents Robert E. Webber's practical insight about the Christ-centered worship, that is funeral preacher preaches the redemptive story in the Bible, James F. White’s the Eucharist based on the concept of self-giving, and Herbert Anderson & Edward Foley's pastoral care based on the redemptive mourning.

현재 한국 사회는 고령화와 저출산과 같은 문제들에 직면함으로, 노인을 요양 보호 시설에 맡기는 것이 두드려진 현상이다. 또한 한국 사회의 변화에 따라, 한국의 장례 문화도 급격한 변화를 맞이했으며, 대다수 사람들은 집이 아닌, 전문 장례식장에서 장례 지도사의 도움을 받으며 장례를 치른다. 그로 인하여, 오늘날 기독교 장례 예식도 불가피하여 격변을 겪을 수밖에 없는 실정이다. 기독교 장례 예식은 가장 중요한 실천신학의 한 분야라 할 수 있다. 왜냐하면 기독교 장례 예식은 교회 공동체의 강력한 믿음을 드러낼 뿐 아니라, 목회자가 성도들과 죽음까지 뛰어 넘는 순례의 길을 함께 걷는다는 것을 보여주기 때문이다. 그러나 이러한 기독교 장례 예식의 중요함에서 불구하고, 모든 성도는 죽음을 두려워한다. 그리고 성도가 믿음으로 죽음을 이긴다는 것이 결코 쉽지 않다. 본 논문은 기독교 장례 예식에 관하여 논할 것이다. 특별히, 임종 예배와 목회 돌봄을 제안하고자 한다. 그리고 논문은 임종 예배와 목회 돌봄의 통합적인 수행 방법을 다루기 위하여, Robert E. Webber의 그리스도 중심적인 예배에서의 구속사적 이야기, James F. White’s 성찬 이론인 self-giving, 그리고 Herbert Anderson & Edward Foley가 목회 돌봄에서 주장한 구속사적 애도, 이렇게 세 가지 이론을 토대로 간략히 설명할 것이다.
