Our times is defined as the era of instability and uncertainty, meaning that our life has been short-cycled and fragmented. This came from Neoliberalism named so-called 'Market society' in which all the individuals have to fight for their survival while strengthening their ability. In this kind of society, an individual becomes a 'solitarily fighting' being isolated from all the possible relationships with others and losing any potential solidarity and cooperation. This study starts with the question based upon a critical mind about Neoliberalism: "Is it possible for us to find a new way of life by cooperation?" To come up with the answer about this question, we have analyzed instances of a social enterprise called 'The Most Beautiful Tree' (Tree in the below). Especially in respect that multi-culture women in South Korea are doubly entwined with 'Live or let die', the very doctrine of Neoliberalism, the instance analysis of Tree is very meaningful. Tree is a 'craft community' taking ethical values like mutual confidence, solidarity and cooperation, and sustainable economy as basic principles of running their company. By looking into this community we can verify how multi-culture women can reconstruct their individual life as an economic and socio-cultural subject while not falling prey to neoliberal strategies and not being reduced to the position of others.

현재 우리 시대는 ‘불안정성과 불확실성의 시대’로 규정되고 있다. 우리 삶이 안정된 미래를 설계할 수 없을 정도로 단기화, 파편화되었다는 것이다. 이는 모든 개인들이 자신의 역량을 강화시켜가면서 타인들과 싸워 생존을 쟁취해야 하는, 소위 ‘기업사회’로 명명된 신자유주의에 기인한다. 이러한 사회 속에서 각자 고립된 개인들은 결속을 끊고 연대와 협력의 역량을 상실한 채, 오로지 ‘홀로 싸우는’ 존재가 된다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 신자유주의에 대한 문제의식을 토대로, ‘협력에 의한 새로운 삶의 방식이 가능한가?’라는 질문에서 시작되었다. 이 질문에 대한 답을 찾기 위해, 우리는 다문화여성들이 모여 만든 사회적 기업인 ‘세상에서 가장 아름다운 나무’(이하 ‘나무’)를 사례로 분석하였다. 특히 한국사회에서 다문화여성은 신자유주의의 ‘살게 만들기 혹은 죽게 내버려두기’라는 통치 전략에 이중적으로 걸려 있다는 점에서, ‘나무’의 사례 분석은 유의미하다. ‘나무’는 상호신뢰, 연대와 협력, 지속가능한 경제라는 윤리적 가치를 운영 원리로 삼는 ‘장인 공동체’이다. 이 공동체를 통해 우리는 한국사회에서 다문화여성이 신자유주의적 통치술과 타자의 위치에 함몰되지 않고, 어떻게 경제적·사회문화적 주체로서 자신의 삶을 재구성할 수 있는지를 확인할 수 있다.
