Hayao Miyazaki, Japanese Animation director, is one of the biggest icons of Japanese pop culture of late 20th century and we can also call him an unparalleled artist of the world. He has been the king of the animation industry for last three decades and still has a enormous influence on that circle even after the official retirement. The things, which make people has a sincere admiration for his works, are not just the excellent technique, interesting stories, charming characters and striking effects, but also internal - philosophical messages. Therefore, I believe we could have another way to understand Japanese society and culture of present days more deeply by looking what he try to tell with his works. It is well known that Hayao has a great longing for blue sky and the mother earth. In most of his works, the hero or the heroine flies in blue sky, sometimes even without any support, and they are usually running on the green grass. What I try to find in this discussion is the meaning of those metaphorical subjects, which are two biggest symbols of his filmography.
