The purpose of this paper is to examine the ‘community and solidarity’ on Ethics and Thoughts curriculum, and discuss the direction of improvement. This study focuses on the ‘community and solidarity’ in five different Ethics and Thoughts textbooks. This paper contains four distinct sections. First, the paper analyses the national curriculum textbook on Ethics and Thoughts. Second, a brief review of Ethics and Thoughts is provided. Next, some of the outstanding features and problems in ‘community and solidarity’ in different textbooks are discussed. Finally, suggestions are made for improvement of the textbooks. I argued that the contents of ‘community and solidarity’ in Ethics and Thoughts should not be filled with the opinions of the writers of the textbook, and should be filled with the social thought of philosophers instead. Because the primary goal of Ethics and Thoughts is to cultivate the ability of students to critically think and solve social problems in modern society based on various social thoughts of great social and political philosophers. If we are to revise the contents of ‘community and solidarity’ in Ethics and Thoughts, the national curriculum should be change as well.

이 논문의 목적은『고등학교 윤리와 사상』의 한 단원인 ‘공동체와 연대’를, 5종 검정교과서의 주요 내용을 중심으로 분석하고, 사회 사상적인 관점에서 개선하면 좋을 점을 제시하는 것이다. 이 논문은 크게 4부분으로 구성되어 있다. 첫 번째 부분에서는 교육부가 제시한『고등학교 윤리와 사상』의 교육과정을 분석할 것이다. 두 번째 부분에서는 ‘공동체와 연대’ 단원의 핵심 개념과 주장을 요약할 것이다. 그 다음에는 ‘공동체와 연대’ 단원의 특성과 문제점을 제시할 것이다. 그리고 마지막으로 좀 더 나은 교과서를 위한 제안을 담을 것이다. 이러한 분석을 토대로 결론 부분에서 ‘개인과 공동체’ 사이의 관계에 대한 교과서의 서술은 어느 특정한 사회 사상을 지지하거나, 집필자가 자신의 입장에서 ‘이러해야 한다.’고 주장할 것이 아니라 관련 사상이나 사상가들의 입장을 정확하게 소개하는 것으로 끝내고, 서로 상충하는 사상을 어떻게 바라볼 것인가? 그것들을 조화시키는 것이 가능하고 바람직한가? 그렇다면 어떻게 조화시킬 것인가?와 같은 문제는 학생들이 스스로 생각하고 토론할 수 있는 여지를 남겨두는 것이 바람직하다고 주장할 것이다. 그리고 교과서가 개선되기 위해서는 그것의 집필 기준이 되는「도덕과 교육과정」이 먼저 개정되어야 한다고 주장할 것이다.
