This paper examines the current state of Suncheon Bay National Garden, the planning work related to the garden of Suncheon City in 2016, and the problem of the ‘Namdo Literary Renaissance’ of Jeonnam Province. Through this study, we were able to identify some tasks to be considered for the continuous development of Suncheon Bay National Garden. First, Suncheon Bay National Garden is in its infancy. It is necessary to develop the mid-to-long-term systematic view and management plan of Suncheon Bay National Garden by sharing it with the local civil society. Second, it is necessary to enhance synergy by organically combining traditional cultural resources and modern Christian heritage of Suncheon city with Suncheon Bay National Garden. Third, it is necessary to increase the status of Suncheon Bay National Garden in the Jeonnam area. This can be done by looking for specific ways to link the Jeonnam traditional garden project of the ‘Namdo Literary Renaissance’ conducted by Jeonnam province to Suncheon Bay National Garden.

이 논문은 순천시의 『2016년 주요업무보고서』와 2016년 7월에 수립되어 현재 진행 되고 있는 전남도청의 『남도문예르네상스』 사업들을 중심적으로 검토하였다. 이러한 검 토에 근거하여 이 논문은 순천만국가정원의 지속적 발전방안을 세 가지로 제안하였다. 첫째, 시작단계에 놓인 순천만국가정원의 중장기적인 체계적인 전망과 운영방안을 지역 시민사회와 공유하면서 발전시켜나가야 한다. 둘째, 순천 원도심 ‘역사타운’이 담고 있는 전통문화자원과 기독교근대유산 등을 순천만국가정원과 유기적 결합시켜 상호 시너지를 높여나가야 한다. 셋째, 전남도청이 진행하는 ‘남도문예르네상스’의 전남전통정원 사업 과 순천만국가정원을 연결시킬 수 있는 구체적인 방안들을 모색하여, 전남지역에서 순천 만국가정원이 차지하는 위상을 높여나가야 한다.
