Yongamsejang in Gwangyang is the modern house is built in 1929. The building has a very high academic value because it retains the characteristics of a traditional Hanok built in modern times. Like the plan type of the Gyeopjip (double axis space), the width of the ToaetGan (half bay) of the back side is set to one bay, and the internal space is expanded so as to be convenient for living. By actively utilizing storage space, in the main building items are kept in the attic. All extra space on the west side of the other building is used as storage space. In order to construct high-quality space as high-class housing, various architectural structures were designed by high quality members. In order to prevent the inside of the house from being overlooked, a wall was created for keeping the women’s space and observing Confucian living standards. Through such architectural significance, Yongamsejang is a complete architectural heritage left for the descendants

광양 용암세장은 광양시 진월면 차사리에 있는 근대 한옥으로, 안채와 사랑채의 건립 연대는 1929년이다. 용암세장의 여러 건물 중에서도 특히 안채와 사랑채는 근대 시기에 지어진 전통 한옥의 특징을 고스란히 간직하고 있기 때문에 학술적 가치가 매우 높다. 겹집의 평면 유형과 같이 배면의 툇간의 폭을 1칸 규모로 하여 생활에 편리하도록 내부 공간을 확장하여 사용하였다. 수납공간의 적극적인 활용으로, 안채에서는 다락인 큰 규 모의 더그매 공간을 사용하여 안채 살림에 주요 물품을 보관했고, 사랑채에서는 서측에 있는 칸 전체를 모두 수납공간으로 활용했다. 고급주택으로서의 격조 높은 공간 구성을 위하여 각종 건축 구성을 의장성이 높은 부재로 장식하였다. 집의 내부를 훤히 들여다 볼 수 없도록 가름벽을 조성하여 공간의 구분과 함께 여성들의 공간을 지켜 유교적 생활 규범을 준수하려는 의지를 반영하였다. 이와 같은 건축적 의의를 통하여 용암세장은 후 손들에게 온전한 건축유산으로 남겨야 할 것이다.
