Guilty of Romance (恋の罪, 2011) is said to be one of the so-called “hatred trilogy” together with Love Exposure (2008) and Cold Fish (2010), directed by Sono Sion (園子溫, 1961~) who has revealed the self-portrait of contemporary Japan through the filmic aesthetics of chaos. In particular, Guilty of Romance is excellent at giving poetic, philosophical, and religious descriptions of the grotesqueness of sexuality. The main purpose of this essay is to examine the peculiar orientation of Sono Sion’s films toward femininity by analyzing Guilty of Romance from the perspective of psychology, religious studies, and feminism. In so doing, this essay shows the “spirituality of sexuality” or “spirituality of hatred” with a particular question in mind: “Can we get over all the hatred?”.

카오스의 영상미학을 통해 현대 일본의 자화상을 폭로해온 소노 시온(園子溫, 1961~) 감독의 <사 랑의 죄>(恋の罪, 2011)는 <사랑의 노출>(2008) 및 <차가운 열대어>(2010)와 더불어 이른바 ‘증오 3부작’에 속하는 작품으로 특히 섹슈얼리티의 그로테스크성에 대한 시적, 철학적, 종교적인 묘사 에 뛰어나다. 이 글의 목적은 이와 같은 <사랑의 죄>에 대한 정신분석학적, 종교학적, 젠더론적 분 석을 통해 ‘증오의 스피리추얼리티’와 결부된 소노 영화 특유의 여성성에 대한 지향성을 확인하는 데에 있다. 그 과정에서 이 글은 핑크영화라든가 로망포르노 장르 등을 포함해 전후 일본영화사에 뚜렷하게 각인된 섹슈얼리티 표현의 의의와 문제점을 재고하고자 한다. 이때 섹슈얼리티 표현이라 는 측면에서 핑크영화 및 로망포르노와 어느 정도 연속성을 내포할 뿐만 아니라 무엇보다 현대 일 본사회의 이해에 있어 간과할 수 없는 측면, 즉 ‘섹슈얼리티의 스피리추얼리티’와 관련되어 있다는 점에서 요요기 다다시 감독의 포르노 <채널링 성교>를 중심으로 AV 장르도 함께 다룬다. 궁극적으 로 ‘우리가 증오를 극복할 수 있을까?’라는 물음에 내포된 젠더적 의미를 추구하고자 한다.
