This article traces my experience of running the 2014 Humanities show of Korea Research Foundation performed as a cooperative work of Kyonggi University ’ s Humanities Center and Suwon city. Reflecting that the humanities programs must be based on the locality, I describe in detail the meaning and process of the local based humanities program. In chapter one, looking back on the results of the Humanities show for years I emphasize that humanities should be humanities for citizens and the change of the citizen society as well, which are the ultimate purpose of popularization of humanities. In chapter two the points of understanding and changing locality and revealing the identity of locality are emphasized in which all humanities shows could be well developed. In chapter three I propose two examples of the humanities programs based on locality. You can see here the essential particular of the practicing cases of making agenda, the method of the programming process, and the evaluation system. In chapter four I emphasize the fact that if the aim or reason of humanities program is clearly described, the well finished program is made. Many humanities programs, when made, consist mostly of inappreciation and indifference of localities, then consequently bring about downgrading degree of participation of citizens for taking the humanities lectures. In this meaning local based humanities program becomes important, by which self directed participation is invited, and then we can be successfully guided with the right path of the popularization of humanities.

이 논문은 경기대 인문학연구소와 수원시가 2014년 한국연구재단의 인문도시 사업을 수행하면서 경험한 내용을 기술한 것이다. 인문학 프로그램의 의의와 방 향은 지역에 근거해야 한다는 점을 반성하면서 지역밀착형 인문학 프로그램의 특성을 자세하게 서술했다. 인문도시사업을 비롯한 많은 인문학 프로그램들이 지역의 중요성을 무시할 때 생길 수 있는 문제점을 살펴보면서, 지역밀착형 인문 학 프로그램의 의미와 진행이 어떻게 전개되어야 하는가를 설명하고자 했다. 1절 “인문도시와 시민인문학”에서는 지난 몇 년 동안의 수원시의 인문도시사 업의 성과를 되돌아보면서 인문학은 시민인문학이 되어야 한다는 점, 즉 인문학 대중화의 궁극적 목적은 지역 시민사회의 변화에 있다는 점을 강조했다. 2절 “수 원 인문도시의 미래와 전망”에서는 수원 인문도시사업의 방향은 지역에 대한 이 해와 지역의 변화, 그리고 지역의 정체성 찾기라는 본래의 목적을 잊지 않고 전 개되어야 한다는 점을 강조했다. 3절 “지역밀착형 인문학 프로그램; 사례 분석”에 서는 인문학 프로그램을 제작함에 있어 지역성의 중요성을 실제로 수행했던 두 가지 프로그램의 사례를 제시하고 분석했다. 또한 지역 기반의 의제 개발, 진행 방식, 그리고 평가시스템 개발의 중요성을 강조했다. 4절 “에필로그; 인문학 프로 그램도 영화 제작처럼”에서는 프로그램의 목적이 명확하고 동기화가 잘 되었을 때 좋은 프로그램이 나올 수 있다는 점, 그리고 지역과 주민들의 관계를 정상화 시킬 수 있는 시민인문학의 특성을 다시 강조했다. 인문학 프로그램 제작 시 많은 경우 지역에 대한 몰이해와 무관심이 인문학 강좌에 대한 참여도를 떨어뜨리는 결과를 낳는다. 그런 의미에서 지역밀착형 프 로그램은 중요하다. 지역에 밀착된 프로그램에 의해서만 시민들의 자발적인 참여를 가져 올 수 있고 인문학 대중화의 본래의 취지를 성공적으로 이끌 수 있음을 확신한다.
