The aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of fear of negative/positive evaluations and perfectionistic self-presentation on college students' social anxiety. For this study, questionnaires on fear of negative/positive evaluations, perfectionistic self-presentation and social anxiety were administered to 416 college students in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi area. The data were analyzed through frequency, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS Win 21. The main findings of this study are as follows: First, fear of negative evaluation, fear of positive evaluation, nondisplay of imperfection(NDP) and nondisclosure of imperfection(NDC) were significant predictors of social anxiety in college students. Second, nondisclosure of imperfection and nondisplay of imperfection played a partially mediating role in the relationship between fear of negative evaluation and social anxiety in college students. Third, nondisclosure of imperfection, nondisplay of imperfection and perfectionistic self-promotion(PSP) played a partially mediating role in the relationship between fear of positive evaluation and social anxiety in college students.

본 연구의 목적은 대학생의 부정적/긍정적 평가에 대한 두려움이 완벽주의적 자기제시를 매개로 사회불안에 미치는 영향을 검증하고자 한다. 부정적/긍정적 평가에 대한 두려움이 각각 사회불안에 어떠한 독특한 영향을 끼치는지 알아봄으로써 대학생의 사회불안에 관한 이해를 돕고자 한다. 이를 위해 서울, 인천, 경기 지역에 소재한 4년제 대학교에 재학하는 대학생 450명을 대상으로 사회불안, 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움, 긍정적 평가에 대한 두려움, 완벽주의적 자기제시에 관한 질문지를 실시하였다. 회수된 질문지들 중 불성실한 응답지를 제외하여 총 416부를 최종적인 연구 대상으로 선정하였다. 분석에는 SPSS 21.0 프로그램을 사용하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학생의 부정적/긍정적 평가에 대한 두려움과 완벽주의적 자기제시가 사회불안에 미치는 상대적 영향력에서 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움, 긍정적 평가에 대한 두려움, 완벽주의적 자기제시 하위 차원인 불완전함 은폐-행동, 불완전함 은폐-언어의 순으로 나타났다. 둘째, 완벽주의적 자기제시의 하위 영역인 ‘불완전함 은폐-행동’, ‘불완전함 은폐-언어’이 부정적 평가에 대한 두려움이 대학생의 사회불안에 미치는 영향에서 부분 매개 효과를 나타냈다. 셋째, 완벽주의적 자기제시의 하위 영역인‘불완전함 은폐-행동’, ‘불완전함 은폐-언어’, ‘완벽주의적 자기제시노력’은 긍정적 평가에 대한 두려움이 대학생의 사회불안에 미치는 영향에서 부분 매개효과를 나타냈다.
