In this paper, based on the classification standard of Lall(2000) to classify the 62 products of SITC Rev.3 two digit level, we calculate the dominant comparative advantage index and similarity index of the export product to measure the competitiveness between Korea and other East Asian economies, and then compute inter-industry complementarity index and intra-industry complementarity index to measure the complementarity between Korea and East Asian economies during 1992-2014. The results show as follows; First, the similarity index of export product between Korea and Japan is the strongest, and the advantages of the export commodities of the two countries are all capital intensive goods and technology intensive goods. Second, the advantages of export goods of other economies are growing, but there are still some gaps compared with Korea. Third, the inter-industry trade between Korea and other East Asian economies has been weakened. Fourth, the trade of resource intensive products is mainly determined by the inter-industry mode, and the trade of the labor-intensive products are mainly decided by the inter-industry mode and intra-industry mode as well. In addition, the trade of capital intensive products and technology intensive products are brought by intra-industry between Korea and other East Asian economies.

본 연구에서는 Lall(2000)의 상품 분류 기준에 따라 SITC상품의 두 자리 수준별 분류의 62종류 상품을 새롭게 분류하여 1992년부터 2014년까지 한국과 동아시아 국가의 무역 경쟁성과 보완성에 대해 분석하였다. 즉 각 국가의 현시 비교우위 지수와 수출 유사성 지수를 통해 한국과 동아시아 국가들 사이의 경쟁성을 측정하였으며, 한국과 동아시아 국가 간의 보완성을 측정하기 위해 산업 간 보완성과 산업 내 보완성을 측정했다. 본 연구의 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국과 일본의 상품 유사도가 가장 높았으며, 양국의 수출품은 모두 자본 집약형 상품과 기술 집약형 상품 위주라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 동아시아 여러 국가의 수출 상품에 대한 우위가 지속되고 있으나, 또 다른 분야에서는 한국과의 격차가 존재하고 있었다. 셋째, 한국과 동아시아 국가의 산업간 무역이 지속적으로 약화되었다. 넷째, 자원 집약형 상품에서 한국과 동아시아의 무역은 산업간 보완성 위주로 발전하였으며, 노동 집약형 상품에서 한국과 동아시아의 무역은 산업 간 보완성과 산업 내 보완성이 공존하며 자본 집약형 상품과 기술 집약형 상품에서 무역은 산업 내 보완성 위주로 진행되었다.
