This study compares the R&D Investment of the SMEs participating in supplier networks with the R&D Investment of the non-supplier companies in order to analyze the effects of the supplier networks on the RDI of SMEs. The results were as follows. First, the degree of RDI of the sub-contracters participating in the suppliers networks is smaller than that of non-participants. Second, in terms of transaction stages, the RDI was in the order of non-cooperating companies, primary sub-contracters and secondary sub-contractors. The R&D Investment of secondary suppliers was lower than that of the primary suppliers. Third, in the high-tech industry, the medium high-tech industry and the medium low-tech industry, both the primary sub-contracters and the secondary sub-contractors showed a lower level of RDI than that of the non-cooperating firms. If the R&D Investment of SMEs is reduced, the bargaining power of the suppliers will be weakened in the long run and the growth of SMEs will be negatively affected. This is why we need the new industrial networks to promote SMEs' R&D Investment.

본 연구는 대중소기업간 거래관계가 중소기업 연구개발투자에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위해 비협력기업의 연구개발투자를 표준으로 하여 대중소기업간 거래관계에 참여하는 협력중소기업의 연구개발투자를 비교하였다. 결과는 다음과 같았다. 첫째, 대중소기업간 거래관계에 참여하는 협력기업의 연구개발집중도는 비협력기업의 연구개발집중도 보다 1% 유의 수준에서 더 적었다. 둘째, 거래단계별로 보면, 연구개발집중도는 비협력기업, 1차 협력기업, 2차 협력기업 순으로 나타났다. 1차 협력기업보다 2차 협력기업의 연구개발집중도가 더 낮았다. 이는 거래단계의 아래로 내려갈수록 기업규모가 작아지고 협력기업에 대해서는 높은 기술수준을 요구하지 않는 중간재의 납품을 외주하기 때문이라 판단된다. 셋째 산업별로 보면, 고위기술산업, 중위기술산업, 첨단 기술산업에서는 1차 협력기업과 2차 협력기업 모두 비협력기업보다 유의한 수준에서 연구개발집중도가 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 협력기업들의 연구개발투자가 줄어든다면 장기적으로 대기업에 대한 중소기업들의 협상력을 약화될 것이며 중소기업의 성장에도 부정적인 영향을 줄 것이다. 협력 중소기업들의 연구개발투자를 촉진할 수 있는 방안이 필요한 이유이다.
