Clausewitz Vom Kriege is composed of eight part. ‘Part Ⅰ(Nature of war)' is useful in studying modern warfare today. He explained the difference between Absolute warfare and Real warfare in Part Ⅰ. He emphasized the importance of political goals of Real war and insisted that Military genius can overcome the friction factors of war situation. Friction factors that govern the war is Danger, Physical pain, Uncertainty and Contingency. And he emphasized the importance of Mental strength. But his argument do not accept diversity of modern warfare. Especially, he didn't explain the importance of Science and Technology and Economic power for victory in war. In conclusion, Clausewitz war theory is very useful in terms of political and social value of war. But Clausewitz war theory is not useful in technical and social aspects.

클라우제비츠가 작성해 놓은 초안을 정리하여 그의 부인 마리에 의해 출간된 전쟁론은 8 편으로 구성되어 있으며, 그 중 ‘제1편 전쟁의 본질’은 클라우제비츠가 직접 완성한 부분으 로 오늘날까지도 전쟁을 연구하는데 유용성을 인정받고 있다. 클라우제비츠는 절대전쟁과 현실전쟁의 이중성을 고찰하면서 전쟁의 정치적 목적과 전쟁 양상을 가름하는 삼중성을 설명하였다. 또한 그는 전쟁을 지배하는 마찰요인과 마찰을 극복 하기 위해 군사적 천재가 갖추어야 할 조건을 제시하였다. 특히 그는 전쟁론의 전 편에 걸 쳐 정신적 요소를 강조하고 있다. 그러나 그의 주장은 첨단무기의 발달로 변화되는 현대전 쟁의 다양성을 수용하는데 한계를 보이고 있다. 특히, 기술적 측면과 경제적 측면이 전쟁에 미치는 영향을 설명하지 못하였다. 결론적으로 클라우제비츠 전쟁론의 현대적 가치는 정치적ž사회적 측면에서 유용한 것으로 평 가되고 있으며, 기술적ž경제적 측면에서는 현대전쟁에 적용하는데 한계가 있다고 할 수 있다.
