River names such as Ukriha(郁里河) and Arisu(阿利水) were derived from Wiryeseong(慰禮城), the name of the first city of palace(王城) in Baekje. And then beyond the territory of the palace city, Hanseong(漢城) was generated as the name of capital city(都城). With this expansion, a river name of Hansu(漢水) that passed through the capital city only was expansively used for the entire area of the river. The river names of Arisu and Ukriha were called a section of Hansu that passed through the capital city. An administrative place name of Hanyang-gun(漢陽郡) appeared in 755. The name of Hanyang(漢陽), the capital city of Joseon, originated from being in northern part of Hansu. It is found that the administrative place name of Hanyang had already emerged in unified Silla. In addition. the name of Hanyang-gun was also presented for being located north of Hansu. This study has found cases that a capital city name was derived from that of a river. The importance of a river was so significant that it served as the origin of capital city name and location. Soil conditions were pointed out as an element to determine a capital city in China. It was found in an example that Baekje moved its capital from a seaside city Michuhol to Wirye based on a statement of “wet land and salty water.” It emphasized that soil conditions as well as those of river were important in selecting a capital city.

백제 최초의 왕성 이름인 慰禮城에서 郁里河나 阿利水라는 江 이름이 비롯되었다. 이어 王城의 범위를 넘어 都城 이름으로서 漢城이 생겨났다. 이와 관련해당초 도성 구간을 통과하는 江 이름 漢水는 江水 전역으로 확대되었다. 이때 아리수나 욱리하라는 江 이름은 도성 구간을 통과하는 한수의 구간 이름으로 불리었다. 755년에 漢陽郡이라는 행정지명이 등장했다. 조선시대 도성인 漢陽은 한수 북쪽에 소재한 데서 이름이 유래하였다. 이러한 漢陽 행정지명은 통일신라 때 이미 등장했음을 알 수 있다. 아울러 이때의 漢陽郡도 漢水 이북에 소재한데서 그러한 지명이 부여된 것이다. 강 이름에서 도성 이름이 생겨 난 경우를 찾았다. 도성 이름과 그 立地의 기원이 될 정도로 江의 비중은 지대하였다. 그리고 중국에서는 토양의 조건을 도성결정의 요인으로 지목했다. 이 경우는 백제가 당초 海邊인 미추홀에 도읍했다가慰禮로 옮기는 배경과 관련해 “땅이 습하고 물이 짰다”는 데서 찾을 수 있었다. 역시 도성의 선정과 관련해 江과 더불어 토양의 조건이 중요한 요소임을 웅변해주었다.
