If politics is understood as a science, it is supposed to be the science based on natural sciences. The natural sciences aim at attaining the truth whose essence is repeatability, prediction, regularity and law, which completely get rid not only of man but also of the context of history, institutions, practices and language on the basis of which man lives. The politics, while it ceaselessly apes the manners of natural sciences, has lost its identity and it ability to reflect itself. It is thus necessary to reflect and recover the true meaning of the politics, in the light of the discipline which is different from natural sciences and which explores the questions of human, morals and social & historical phenomenon. This study explores the meaning of the politics by reconstructing moments of Gadamer's hermeneutical humanism inherent in ‘Geisteswissenschaften’ and show that regarding the politics as science is like illusion or myth.

인간과 사회 및 정치 현상을 연구하고 양자를 매개해 줌으로써 궁극적으로는 인간의 실천에 대한 가능성을 제시해주고 대안을 마련해 줄 수 있는 학문으로서의 정치학은 오늘날 사라져 버린 것 같다. 정치학이 주장하고 지향하고 있는 과학이란 실은 살아있는 인간들을 거대한 규칙속으로 환원시키고 이 과정 속에서 인간의 실천과의 연계를 끊어버리고 있기 때문이다. 정치학은 과학의 미신에 빠져 있기에 이를 의식하고 있지 못하다. 정치학이 날씨를 예측하듯 과학적 방법이나 법칙을 통해 어떤 하나의 결론에 도달하는 것 자체는 인간과 정치를 의미를 이해하는 데 별다른 도움이 되지 못한다. 정치학이 자기기만 속에서 자신이 당면한 문제를 스스로 성찰하고 반성하지 못하고 있는 이상, 그 문제가 무엇인지는 인간을 연구하는 다른 학문의 도움을 통해서 적절하게 밝혀질 수 있다. 특히 과학의 이름으로 단절된 실천의 맥락들과 범주들이 무엇인지가 재구성되고 복원되어야 한다.
