This study examines the discussion of community archives within the academia of archival studies and proposes a new approach to the community by applying anthropological research methodologies. A community should be considered beyond a target of ‘restoration’ and have a kind of ‘attitude’ towards it as a subject of action being preceded. This requires adjusting the existing discussion of and approach to community archives by the academia of archival studies. New trends appear in local papers since the 2000s along with the development of oral history. Through oral history, efforts have been made to gain access to local and regional communities. This research shares the experience of writing for a local paper based on oral interviews with the natives of Tongtan New Town in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, employing the ethnographic method. Ultimately, this research proposes how an archivist or researcher as an outsider meets with community members as an insider, and how they, as multiple subjects, create community archives.

본 연구는 최근 다양하게 논의되고 있는 공동체아카이브에 대한 기록학계의 논의를 검토하고 인류학적 연구방법론을 적용하여 공동체에 대해 새롭게 접근할 것을 제안한다. ‘복원’의 대상으로서의 공동체라는 시각을 넘어 행위주체로서의 공동체에게다가가는 일종의 ‘태도’가 선행되어야 함을 주장하는 것이다. 이는 기존의 기록학계에서 다루었던 공동체아카이브의 논의와 접근방식의 조정을 필요로 한다. 2000년대 이후 지방지 작업에 있어 새로운 경향이 나타나고 있는데 이는 구술사의 발전과 궤를함께 한다. 구술사를 통해 지방사, 지역성에 접근하고자 하는 노력들이 촉발된 것이다. 따라서 본 연구는 문화기술지적 접근방법을 적용하여 경기도 화성의 동탄 신도시원주민과의 구술을 토대로 지방지를 집필했던 경험을 사례로 제시한다. 이를 통해 외부자로서의 연구자 혹은 아키비스트가 내부자로서 공동체 구성원과 어떻게 만나고, 그들이 복수의 주체로서 어떻게 공동체 아카이브를 만들어 갈 것인지에 대해 제안하고자 한다.
