Conceptual Art of Hans Haacke: Repressed Memory of History and Its Implications on the Present Yun, Heekyeong (Seoul National University) This paper investigates three works of Hans Haacke that specifically deal with repressed memory of history. And Finally You Won, the installation work in Graz that represents the Anschluss (the annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany), recalls the uncomfortable memory of having uncritically been assimilated to the fascist ideology. In his work Germania for the Venice Biennale, Haacke contrasted the glorified moments of the German unification with the repressed memories of the Third Reich, revealing the continuity of fascistic elements lurking in today's capitalism. In Der Bevölkerung (The People), the installation work in the German parliamentary building, Haacke criticized the German nationalism that still lingers on in the building's main inscription that reads: Dem Deutschen Volk (To the German People). Through these works, Haacke brings back repressed memories of the past and asks the viewers to reflect on their implications on the looming sociopolitical problems of the present.

한스 하케(Hans Haacke)의 개념미술에 나타난 억압된 역사의 기억과 그 현재적 의미윤희경 (서울대학교) 한스 하케는 여러 개념미술 작업을 통해 나치 시대라는 억압된 역사의 기억을 일깨우며 현재 속에 은 밀히 작동하고 있는 파시즘의 잔재를 자각하게 하였다. 그라츠에서 이루어진 작업 <너희들은 결국 승리 하였다>는 50년 전의 나치와의 합병행사를 재현하며 무비판적으로 그들의 이데올로기에 잠식되어갔던 과거의 불편한 기억들을 소환하였고, 베니스 비엔날레에서의 작업 <게르마니아>는 통일이라는 독일 역 사의 영광의 순간을 파시즘의 기억과 대비시키며 후기 자본주의 체제 안에 여전히 작동하고 있는 파시즘 의 연속성을 숙고하게 하였다. 독일 국회의사당의 설치작업 <거주민들에게>는 외국인에 대한 적대 감정 이라는 통일 이후 점증하는 사회 문제가 나치시대의 배타적 민족주의와 동일한 뿌리를 가지고 있음을 일 깨우며 독일 영토에 사는 모든 이들의 권익을 대변하는 국회가 되기를 촉구하였다. 이러한 하케의 작업들 은 감상자들에게 자기비판과 논의의 계기를 제공하며 사회적 변화의 한 동인이 되어 주었는데 그러한 의 미에서 그의 미술은 계몽을 위한 도구이며 정치적인 행위였다.
