On September 18, 1894, Donghak Peasant Army, who gathered in Boeun shortly after issuing a uprising command in the Donghak denomination, was going to Gongju under the command of the leader Son Byong-hi. The Donghak denomination organized local guards to keep the Boeun area where the headquarters is located. The local garrison fights two big battles against the Japanese army in Cheongju area. All over the place of Cheongju Fortress, where Cheongju Donghak peasant army attacked on September 24, 1894, had a fierce battle, and the battle of Jimyeong on October 26 and the battle of jngyak on October 29 again. In this battle, the Donghak peasant army was defeated one-sided by the superior force of the Japanese army. However, it was an important battle that prevented major Japanese troops from participating in the battle of Gongju Ugeumchi, the largest battle of 1894.
