RFID which is noticed as a core technology that can make a value of society and economic instead of bar-code will be expected that it is able to occupy important position at the next Ubiquitous and it is able to make new market at the various industrial place. There is no research of financial service by using RFID even though financial market is noticed as a new market for RFID. If there is a introduction of RFID technology, it will be good for not only customer but also financial agency. Because it can provide convenience to customer and various benefit to a financial agency like a unification of payment process, prevention of evasion of taxes, control of forgery and transparency of trade. This research is about general idea, technology and practical use of RFID at the domestic and foreign. This is also about a present situation of using RFID at the financial service and way of revitalization financial service in the future.

기존의 바코드를 대체하여 사회ㆍ경제적 가치를 창출할 핵심기술로 주목 받고 있는 RFID는 차세대 유비쿼터스 환경에서 중요한 기술적ㆍ산업적인 위치를 차지할 것이며 향후 다양한 산업분야에서 새로운 시장을 창출할 것으로 기대되고 있다. 특히, 금융권이 RFID의 새로운 시장으로 부각되고 있는 추세이나 아직까지 금융권에 있어서는 RFID 기술을 활용한 서비스가 활성화 되지 못하고 있으며, 금융 서비스에 관한 연구 역시 전무한 실정이다. 하지만 금융서비스에 RFID 기술을 도입하면 이용고객에게는 편의성을 제공하고 금융기관에는 지급결제과정의 통합화, 탈세방지, 위폐관리 및 거래의 투명성 등 다양 한 많은 이점을 제공함으로써 업무의 효율성과 서비스의 질을 높일 수 있어 이용고객이나 금융기관 모두 에게 매력적이라고 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 RFID의 개념, 기술, 국내ㆍ외 실용화 연구사례 및 RFID 기술을 활용한 금융서비스 현황과 향후 RFID를 활용한 금융서비스 활성화 방안에 대해서 알아보고자 한다.
