As an interest in environmental issues such as exhaustion of fossil fuel, global warming, acid rain and destruction of ozone layer has increased, environmental management that aims for sustainable development of economy and environment has become important as new management paradigm. However, lots of domestic companies do not consider environmental management as strategic issue because correlation between investment in environment and economic performance has not been clarified. Similarly, academic works has still reported the inconsistent results between environment investment and economic performance. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between environmental performance expressed in eco-efficiency and eco-productivity obtained from DEA-WINDOW model and MPI model, and economic value from static and dynamic viewpoints. 120 environmental performance index from 24 manufacturers listed on the KOSPI for 5 years (from 2010 to 2014) were collected. The number of employees (EM), Environment investment costs(IN), Energy use(EN), Water intake(WA)were set as input. Greenhouse emission(GH), Waste emission(WS), Economic value added(EVA) were set as output in developing DEA-WINDOW model and MPI model. Major findings are as followings. First, eco-efficiency has been improved as environmental management has been integrated into a new culture of enterprise. However, improvement in eco-efficiency does not lead to an increase in eco-productivity. Second, the investment in environment leads to improvement in profitability. Finally, environmental performance has a positive effect on a firm’s value by improving participation of employees and awareness of environmental performance and friendly image of an enterprise This study is significant that it introduced general and standardized performance index by introducing eco-efficiency and eco-productivity that reflected sustainable growth and found that there is correlation between environmental performance index and economic performance and presented guideline for environment related research model and provided managers with a result of analysis that investment in environment leads to economic performance.

최근 환경훼손에 대한 위기의식이 고조되고 정부, 환경단체 및 일반소비자의 환경에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 기업의 환경책임과 환경경영의 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 그러나 많은 국내 기업들은 환경경영을 기업의 생존과 관련된 전략적 문제로 인식하지 않고 있으며 학계에서도 환경투자와 경제적 성과 사이의 선순환적인 관계성에 대한 명확한 증거를 제시하지 못하고 있다. 에코효율성과 에코생산성은 이러한 한계점을 극복하기 위하여 제안된 환경성과지표로서 지속가능한 성장이란 개념 하에 경제적 성과지표 대비 환경성과지표로 구성되어 있다. 선행연구들은 단일 시점의 정태적 측면에서 에코효율성과 에코생산성의 경제적 가치를 측정하는데 한정되었지만, 본 연구에서 여러 기간에 걸쳐 동태적 측면에서 DEA-WINODW와 MPI모형을 이용하여 에코효율성과 에코생산성을 측정하고 환경성과와 경제적 성과의 정태적 관계성 및 동태적 관계성을 분석하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 2010년부터 2014년까지 24개 기업의 120개 기업-연도별 자료를 대상으로 에코효율성과 에코생산성의 동태적 추이를 관찰한 결과 에코효율성이 개선되고 있음을 확인하였으나, 에코효율성의 개선이 에코생산성의 증가로 연계되지 못하고 에코생산성이 오히려 하락하고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 정태적 관점과 동태적 관점에서 에코효율성과 에코생산성의 경제적 가치를 분석한 결과, 기업의 환경투자가 기업의 수익성 개선 및 기업가치 제고에 양(+)의 영향을 미치고 있음을 분석함으로 기업의 환경투자와 경제적 성과 사이에 선순환적인 관계성을 확인하였다.
