This study analyses the relationships among perceived social support, multicultural acceptability and school adjustment by multicultural background. Using a sample of 5,758 elementary school students from KELS 2013, structural equation modeling is applied. The results show that the students from multicultural families had significantly lower levels of perceived social support and school adjustment compared to those from Korean families. The perceived social support and multicultural acceptability had direct effects on school adjustment. In addition, Multicultural acceptability partially mediated the relationship between perceived social support and school adjustment. The mediation effect, however, was not moderated by multicultural background. Based on the analytical results, implications for multicultural education and policy were discussed.

이 연구는 다문화 배경에 따른 아동의 사회적 지지와 다문화수용성이 학교적응에 미치는 영향을 분석함으로써 교육 및 이주민정책에 시사점을 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 한국교육개발원의 「한국교육종단연구 2013」 1-2차 데이터를 사용하여 초등학교 6학년을 대상으로 구조방정식모형에 대한 분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 다문화학생의 사회적 지지와 학교적응 수준이 일반학생에 비해 유의하게 낮았다. 둘째, 사회적 지지와 다문화수용성이 학교적응에 직접적인 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 사회적 지지와 학교적응의 관계에서 다문화수용성의 부분 매개효과가 발견되었다. 넷째, 다문화 배경에 의한 조절된 매개효과는 발견되지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 사회적 지지가 학교적응에 중요한 요소로 작용하며, 다문화가정학생들은 사회적 지지와 학교적응 수준이 상대적으로 낮아 향후 소외 등의 환경에 노출될 가능성이 높음을 시사한다. 따라서 다문화가정학생들의 학교적응과 나아가 사회통합을 실현하기 위해서는 사회적 지지기반 확대와 더불어 한국사회의 다문화수용성 제고를 위한 장기적 관점에서의 교육이 필요하다.
