This study investigates using empirical analysis the effect of R&D investment on productivity growth, the promotion effect of government support for R&D on the R&D investment in private sector, and the differences in those effects among different firm size groups. According to the empirical results, the significant effects of R&D investment on productivity growth, in order of coefficient size, are small-size enterprises and medium-size enterprises. Those effects in enterprises of middle standing and large-size enterprises are all insignificant. Meanwhile, the promotion effects of government support for R&D on the R&D investment in private sector are significant in all type enterprises except medium-size enterprises. The promotion effects, in order of coefficient size, are small-size enterprises, enterprises of middle standing, and large-size enterprises.

본 연구는 연구개발투자가 생산성 증가율에 어떤 효과를 미치는지, 그리고 정부의 연구개발지원이 민간의 연구개발투자를 촉진하는지 등에 대한 분석 뿐만 아니라 이러한 분석결과들이 기업규모별로 어떤 차이를 보이는지를 실증분석을 통해 검토하여 시사점을 제공하고 있다. 분석결과에 따르면 연구개발의 생산성 향상효과는 소기업군과 중기업군 순으로 컸으며 모두 통계적으로 유의적이었다. 그러나, 동 효과는 중견기업군 및 대기업군에서 통계적으로 비유의적이었다. 한편 정부 지원의 민간 연구개발 투자 촉진효과를 보면, 중기업군을 제외하고는 모든 규모의 기업군에서 통계적으로 유의적이었으며, 효과의 단순 크기면에서는 소기업군, 대기업군 그리고 중견기업의 순서로 나타났다.
