In this study, the social and cultural issues of Post-Soviet era were investigated while dividing the issues into de-socialism, generalization of sexuality, construct independent nation and formation of cultural identity. The characteristics derived from the investigation were pleasure-seeking ‘sexuality' due to the introduction of exotic trends such as West glamour culture and high-level pornography, ‘resistance' fueled by complaint for crime and social system and against discrimination, ‘amusement' formed in young people's culture through daily play of young people, and ‘fantasy' derived from yearning for Western culture, formation of vain imagination coming from nostalgia. The expression techniques, characterizing Post-Soviet, found in Gvasalia's work were analyzed as ‘form', ‘material', ‘detail', ‘color', ‘model'. The effects of Post-Soviet identified in works by Gvasalia, discussed based on the characteristics of Post-Soviet and formative characteristics of works by Gvasalia, include deconstruction of sense of authority through modification of uniform, use of typography containing bad words, ‘resistance' identified in opposition to customs with the appearance expressing both genders in the form of crossed masculinity and feminity, ‘sexuality' identified in producing decadent and provocative mood through body exposure using typography and red provoking sexual sense, ‘amusement' by focusing on the fun through using strangely fitted or transformed material. And ‘fantasy' identified in red inspiring socialism, spandex material and platform shoes that were popular in Post-Soviet era, employing models from East Europe to inspire nostalgia recalling past, and yearning from young people with new contemporary standard for aesthetics.

패션디자이너 뎀나 바잘리아는 구소련 시기에 출생하고 포스트 소비에트 시기에 청년기를 보내며 경험한과도기의 성장환경을 배경으로 형성된 포스트 소비에트의 특수한 미적 정서와 개성을 반영한 패션으로 세계패션계에서 가장 급진적인 디자이너로 주목받고 있다. 본 연구는 포스트 소비에트 시기의 사회·문화적 쟁점으로부터 도출한 특성을 연구 배경으로 하여 바잘리아의 작품에 나타난 포스트 소비에트의 영향을 논의하는것을 목적으로 하였다. 우선 포스트 소비에트 시기의 시대적 상황을 고찰하여 특성을 도출한 결과, 범죄와사회체제에 대한 불만과 소수집단에 대한 차별에 대항하여 나타난 ‘저항성’, 서구의 글래머 문화와 수위 높은포르노그래피 등의 유입으로 인한 성적 향락의 ‘관능성’, 청년들의 일상의 놀이를 통해 형성된 청년 문화에서나타난 ‘유희성’, 서구문화에 대한 동경과 헛된 상상력의 조성과 과거에 대한 그리움의 향수에서 오는 ‘환상성’이 연구되었다. 포스트 소비에트 시기의 영향이 반영된 바잘리아 작품의 조형적 특성으로는 형태, 소재, 디테일, 색채, 기타(모델)가 분석되었다. 포스트 소비에트의 특성과 바잘리아 작품의 조형적 특성을 기반으로바잘리아의 작품에 나타난 포스트 소비에트의 영향을 논의한 결과 유니폼의 변형을 통한 권위 상징의 해체, 욕설이 포함된 타이포그래피 활용, 남성성과 여성성이 서로 교차된 상반된 젠더의 모습으로 관습에 반항한점에서 ‘저항성’, 신체를 노출하는 형태, 성적 자극을 부여하는 레드컬러와 타이포그래피로 신체 노출을 통해퇴폐적이고 자극적인 분위기를 연출한 점에서 ‘관능성’, 기이하게 재단되거나 변용된 소재 사용으로 재미에본질을 둔 점에서 ‘유희성’, 사회주의를 연상시키는 레드 컬러, 포스트 소비에트 시기에 유행했던 스판덱스소재와 플랫폼 슈즈, 동구권 출신 모델기용으로 과거를 회상하는 그리움을 표현하고 현대의 새로운 미적기준으로서 젊은 세대들의 동경을 받고 있다는 점에서 ‘환상성’이 논의되었다.
