The purpose of this study is to explore the psychopathology of covictims of homicide, trauma experience, and their secondary victimization due to their negative experience from criminal justice system, including the covictims’ attitude towards the criminal justice system. This study conducted open-ended in-dept interview in order to collect qualitative data (a total of 13 covictims) to understand the conditions and experience of the covictims of homicide. The findings from a qualitative analysis suggest that most of the covictims in this study suffer from traumas, depression, complicated grief, anxiety, insomnia, substance abuse including posttraumatic stress disorder. Further, the majority of the covictims expressed their dissatisfaction of the sentence and unpleasant and negative experiences from criminal justice system, which may lead their negative attitude towards the judicial systems. Implications for the research findings for preventing suicide attacks are discussed.

이 연구는 살인범죄피해의 공동피해자들이 겪은 심리적 충격, 고통, 장애 등과 관련된 이해를 높이고, 형사사법시스템과 사법제도의 경험을 통해 경험하게 되는 제2차 피해자화에 대한 이해를 얻고자하는 목적이 있다. 그리고 이로 인해 형사사법시스템과 사법제도에 대한 태도를 검증하였다. 이와 같은 연구목적을 총 13명의 살인범죄피해자의 공동피해자들을 대상으로 책임연구자와 공동연구자, 그리고 연구보조자(피해자상담사)가 팀을 이루어 반구조화된 질문문항을 사용하여 열린 심층면접(open-ended indepth interview)기법으로 공동피해자들과 개별적 면접을 수행하여 분석하였다. 분석결과, 공동피해자들은 다양한 수준의 심리적 장애와 고통을 경험하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이들이 경험하는 심리적 고통 및 장애는 우울증, 외상, 불안장애, 불면증, 알콜중독, 그리고 외상 후 스트레스에 이르기까지 다양하였다. 이어서 대부분의 공동피해자들이 경찰과 사법기관의 사건처리를 경험하면서 부정적인 경험을 하였고, 최종평결에 대해서 대부분 불만족을 표현하였다. 이러한 부정적이고 불만족스러운 형사사법시스템과 사법결과는 이들의 형사사법시스템 전체에 대한 부정적인 태도를 이끌어 내었으며 이들의 2차 피해자화를 암시하였다. 이 연구의 제한점, 공헌, 그리고 후속연구에 대한 제안 등이 결론 및 논의부분에서 거론되었다.
