This study tried to explore the moderating effects of religion on the relationship between the characteristics of inmates and their families and inmates' family strength. Data for this study was collected through survey questionnaires, which were then analyzed through hierarchical Multiple Regression with SPSS+. Main findings were as follows. First, the rate of inmates with a religion was 72.4%, which reflects that religion was widespread among the incarcerated. Second, according to hierarchical Multiple Regression, religion did not have a moderating effect between the level of inmates' education and their family strength. However, religion did have a moderating effect on the relationship between poverty and family strength, as well as family visits and family strength. In conclusion, this study verified that religion might be an effective tool for moderating the negative impacts of poverty and low visitation frequency on inmates' family strength.

이 연구는 수용자 및 가족특성과 가정건강성의 영향관계에서 종교의 조절효과를 검증하는데 목적을 두었다. 설문조사를 통해 수집한 자료는 SPSS+를 이용한 위계적 다중회귀분석을 통해 분석하였다. 주된 발견사항은 다음과 같다. 먼저, 수용자의 유종교율은 72.4%로 수용자의 특성과 무관하게 확산되어 있었다. 한편 수용자 가정건강성에 대한 종교의 조절효과를 검증한 결과, 수용자의 특성과 가정건강성과의 영향관계에서 종교의 조절효과는 의미가 없었다. 반면에 가족빈곤과 가정건강성의 영향관계, 그리고 가족방문과 가정건강성의 영향관계에서 종교는 조절효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 종교는 가족의 경제적 열악함, 빈약한 가족방문이 수용자의 가정건강성에게 주는 부정적 충격을 완화시키는 효과적인 방법임을 본 연구를 통해 확인할 수 있었다.
