For the rehabilitation of prisoners, humanistic education is being more emphasized with vocational education, but the understanding of corrections is still in retributive paradigm. Bring humanities into correctional fields suggests that the correctional paradigm is needed to be change. It is required restoration of human nature, not a punishment. Humanities is a study on the change of values, through underlying reflection of humans. A reality that the change in values of the prisoner through humanistic education has become important in correctional administration calls for a fundamental change of correctional paradigm. This text is a preliminary study to establish Humanistic Corrections through connecting the Humanities and Corrections for a transformation of correctional paradigm which is for amicable rehabilitation of the prisoner. Humanistic thinking like reflection, literature, history, and philosophy will serve to interpret and solve the problems of correctional fields, i.e. dilemma of force and liberty etc, and also social scientific methods of corrections will serve to apply this humanistic reflections to correctional fields. In chapter II, I arranged existing results of peacemaking criminology and restorative justice by analysis of precedent study. In chapter III, I examined the possibility of connecting corrections and humanities in the aspects of an idea, a method, and praxis. In chapter IV, I proposed the meaning and role of Humanistic Corrections as 'humanistic rehabilitation of the prisoner', 'transformation of correctional paradigm', 'development of human ability-truth, good, beauty and divinity', and 'development and dissemination of Humanity corrections program', etc.

수용자의 원활한 사회복귀를 위해 인문학 교육은 직업교육과 함께 더욱더 강조되는 추세이지만, 교정학에 대한 인식은 여전히 응보적 패러다임에 갇혀 있다. 교정 현장에 인문학을 도입한다는 것은 교정 패러다임의 전환 필요성을 시사한다. 처벌이 능사가 아니라 인간성의 근원적인 회복이 요구된다. 인문학은 인간에 대한 근원적인 성찰과 반성을 통해 가치관의 변화를 의도하는 학문이다. 인문학 교육을 통한 수용자의 가치관의 변화가 교정 행정의 중요한 업무가 된 현실은 교정 패러다임의 근원적인 전환을 촉구한다. 이 글은 수용자의 원활한 사회복귀를 위한 교정 패러다임의 전환을 위해 교정학과 인문학의 접목을 통한 인문교정학을 정립하려는 시론적인 연구이다. 문학, 역사, 철학과 같은 인문학적인 사유와 성찰은 강제와 자유의 딜레마 등과 같은 교정 현장의 문제를 해석하는 데 도움이 되며, 교정학의 사회과학적인 방법론은 인문학의 성찰을 구체화하여 교정 현장에 적용하는 데 도움이 된다. 2장에서는 선행연구 분석을 통해 인문교정학의 성격이 강한 평화주의 범죄학과 회복적 사법의 기존 성과들을 정리하였다. 3장에서는 인문학과 교정학의 접목 가능성을 이념적인 측면, 방법적인 측면, 실천적인 측면에서 살펴보았다. 4장에서는 인문교정학의 의미와 역할을 ‘수용자의 인간성 회복’, ‘교정 패러다임의 전환’, ‘진선미성의 인간 능력 회복’, ‘인문교정 프로그램 개발 및 보급’ 등으로 제시하였다.
