Currently, the world is experiencing the development, revolution and adjustment of economy and culture. Each country and nation is researching this situation and grasping opportunities to search for cultural development roads suitable for their own national characteristics so as to defend their national cultural sovereignty and traditions and to maintain and promote their unique national cultures and values. In conjunction with these trends, media as the cultural carrier undertakes more exploration of and research on intercultural communications. Given this background, this article discusses and analyzes the correlations and applications of cultural symbols in the design of game characters and the effects and value in relation to intercultural communication. This article systematically analyzes the patterns of character design and its cultural communication function as integrated with visual cultural symbols from the professional perspective of game character design. It strives to find the technical methods and structures of games in the design of game characters and how the cultural communication effect is maximized.

현재, 세계는 경제와 문화가 대폭 발전하고 변혁되면서 변화하는 시기이다. 각각의 나라와 민족은 모두 자신들의 상황을 연구하면서, 자신의 민족특색에 부합되는 올바른 문화발전방향을 찾고 있고, 이를 통해 자국의 문화주권을 보호하면서, 민족의 문화전통을 지키고, 자신의 민족과 국가 특유의 문화와 가치 관념을 보호하는 동시에 또한 해외로 홍보하고 있다. 문화 전파의 수단인 다양한 매체 연구로 부터 이러한 문화전파분야에 대한 더 많은 탐구와 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구는 바로 이러한 배경 하에, 게임영역에서 게임 속 캐릭터 디자인과 문화부호와의 연관성, 활용 및 이것이 문화전파에 미치는 효과와 가치에 대한 탐구와 분석을 진행하고자 한다. 이를 위해, 본 연구는 게임 캐릭터 디자인의 관점에서 게임 캐릭터 디자인의 형식 및 시각문화부호를 서로 결합한 문화전파 기능성을 계통적으로 분석하였다. 이를 통해, 게임이 게임캐릭터 디자인 영역을 통해 가질 수 있는 문화전파효과를 최대화할 수 있는 방법과 작용 구조를 찾으려 하였다.
