The purposes of this study are to analyze activity system of older adults' volunteer works and to understand its characteristics through expansive learning theory. Expansive learning theory supposes that an individual's activities are constructed under social and collective systems and learning subjects, learning motives, learning tasks, and learning process expands by resolving contradictions of activity systems. Using basic qualitative research method, seven older volunteers participates in this study. The main data collection method is semi-structured interview and data are analyzed through constant comparison method. This study shows six components(subjects, objects, mediating artifacts, rules, community, and division of labor) of activity system of older adults' volunteer work. Older adults' volunteer work is analyzed by four questions(learning subjects, learning motivation, learning tasks, and learning process) and five principle(Activity system as unit of analysis, multi-voicedness, historicity, contradictions, and expansive cycles) of expansive learning. This study finds that activity system of older adults' volunteer work develops through its historicity and contradictions. This study also shows older volunteers can be developed as proactive reformers of activity system through expansive learning.

본 연구는 자원봉사를 수행하는 노인들의 활동이 어떠한 체제를 통해 이루어지며, 자원봉사 활동체제가 다양한 요소들과 상호작용하면서 보이는 확장학습의 성격을 이해하고자 한다. 확장학습이론은 한 개인의 활동이 사회적, 집단적 체제 속에서 구성되며, 활동체제는 모순적 상황을 해결하면서 학습주체, 학습동기, 학습과제, 학습과정이 확장하는 특성을 갖고 있다고 가정한다. 본 연구는 기본적 질적연구방법을 활용하여 자원봉사활동에 참여하고 있는 64세 이상 노인 7명을 대상으로 연구를 진행하였다. 주 자료수집방법으로는 인터뷰가 활용되었으며, 반복적 비교분석법을 통하여 자료를 분석하였다. 본 연구는 노인의 자원봉사활동체제의 여섯 가지 요인을 분석한 후, 노인의 자원봉사활동을 확장학습의 핵심특성(학습주체, 학습동기, 학습과제, 학습과정)과 활동이론의 다섯 가지 원칙(분석 단위로서의 활동체제, 다양한 목소리, 역사성, 모순, 확장적 전환)에 따라 분석하였다. 본 연구를 통해 노인의 자원봉사활동체제는 그 역사성과 모순성으로 인해 끊임없이 발전하는 특성을 보이며, 확장적 전환의 과정을 통해 노인자원봉사참여자는 단순 봉사자에서 활동체제 개선자로 주체의 성격이 확장함을 보여주었다.
