The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of infants’ vocabulary and communication skill through forest walks activities. The tool of examination of communication ability used infant/toddler program developed by Young-ja Lee, Jong-sook Lee, Eun-soo Shin, Hyang-lim Kwak, & Jeong-wuk Lee(2002). This was from 11th of June to 9th of November in 2012, where the experiment was conducted twice a week during the 10 weeks allocated for the experiment. In this study, the t-test was utilized based on the result of the pre-test as the homogeneous group, and ANCOVA was used based on the results of communication as the heterogeneous. Statistical level of significance was set to p<.05. The following are the results of this study. Firstly, the forest walks activity effectively improved the infants’ vocabulary. This is based on the results taken before and after the forest walks activities, of the infants’ vocabulary analysis. The intergroup gaps were statistically significant. Secondly, the forest walks activity was effective in improving the infants’ communication ability. This is based on the result of before and after the forest walks activities, on the infants’ communication ability analysis. The intergroup gaps were statistically significant. The above results showed, the forest walks activity has a positive effect on improving the vocabulary and communication skills for infants.

이 연구는 숲 산책활동이 영아의 어휘력과 의사소통능력에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 데 목적이 있다. 이 연구의 목적을 수행하기 위해 인천광역시에 소재하고 있는 G어린이집 만1·2세 영아 12명을 실험집단으로 하고, S어린이집의 만1·2세 영아 12명을 비교집단으로 구성하였다. 연구과정은 실험집단과 비교집단의 사전검사, 실험처치, 사후검사, 자료처리로 실시되었다. 사전검사 결과 동질집단이라는 결과로 t-test를 사용하였고, 의사소통에서는 이질집단이라는 결과가 나타나 ANCOVA를 사용하였다. 이 연구를 통해 숲 산책활동을 실시하기 전과 후에 영아의 어휘력과 의사소통 능력을 분석한 결과 숲 산책활동이 영아의 어휘력과 의사소통능력 향상에 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났으며 통계적으로 유의미하였다. 위의 결과는 숲 산책활동이 영아의 어휘력과 의사소통능력을 향상시키는 데 긍정적인 효과가 있음을 보여 주고 있다.
