Kim Guangzhou, a famous South Korean modern writer who did some creation for Chinese contemporary literary works in Shanghai, also did some active contribution for Shanghai Morning Post. The paper clarified his cognition on Western literature and communication significance by researching relevant articles about instruction or comments on Western literature published on supplement of Shanghai Morning Post. His characteristics of cognition on western literature is his wide and unique perspective. Firstly, he has concerned in western literature and got some personal viewpoint when he was about 20 years old. It’s worth mentioning that in the 1930s, South Korean literary circles could only approach western literature from Japan. In this context, he learned about western literary dynamic condition, searched its universal values and introduced them to Chinese contemporary literary circles in Shanghai, the center of Chinese modern culture, which can reflected his unique flair on western literature. His cognition on western literature is objective and intensive, which can be reflected in his analysis and comments on French Activism literature, pure literature, critical realism, Russian proletariat literature and socialist realism literature. All of these analysis are sharp and impressive. Moreover, it can also be found in his critics and introductions on Balzac, Leo Tolstoy, Galsworthy and Bernard Shaw. As a South Korean modern writer and translator, there is a profound significance on World literary communication history about his cognition and introduction on western literature to Chinese literary circles and readers by Shanghai Morning Post.

한국의 현대작가 김광주는 일찍 상하이시절에 개인적인 창작활동과 함께 상하이지역신문인 <晨報>의 문예란에 기고활동을 해왔던 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 논문은 주로 <晨報>의 문예란을 통해 발표한 김광주의 서양문학 관련 비평 및 소개문장에 초점을 맞추고 서양문학에대한 그의 인식 양상과 소개 전파의 의의를 살펴보고자 한다. 서양문학에 대한 김광주의 인식과 이해는 주로 서양문학을 바라보는 높은 안목과 독자적인 시각에서 잘 드러나 있다. 우선, 김광주는 20살 초반의 나이에 벌써 서양문학의 각종 동향에 대해 깊은 관심과 이해를 가졌었다. 특히 1930년대의 한국문단이 여전히 일본을 통한 서양문학 수용을 숙명처럼 받아들이던 상황에서 번역자 김광주는 오히려 중국현대문학의 중심지인 상하이에서 당대 서양문학의 흐름을 폭넓게 수용하면서 그 문학의 현대성과 보편적 가치를 발견하고자 애를 썼고 또 그러한 문학을 중국현대문단에 적극 소개했던 것이다. 이러한 지적 노력에서 우리는 서양문학에 대한 김광주의 폭넓은 이해와 높은 안목을 엿볼 수 있다. 다음, 김광주의 서양문학에 대한 인식은 비교적 객관적이면서도 투철하다. 이와 같은 특징은 서양의 문예(문학)사조, 즉 프랑스의 행동주의문학이나 순수문학, 서구의 비판적 리얼리즘에 대한 긍정적인 평가, 그리고 소련(전 러시아) 프롤레타리아문학이나 사회주의리얼리즘 등과 같은 문예사조에 대한 분석과 평가에서 찾아볼 수 있는데 긍정적인 면과 부정적인 면을비교적 예리하면서도 투철하게 지적한 점이 매우 인상적이다. 그리고 고골리라든가 발자크, 레프 톨스토이, 골즈워디, 버나드 쇼 등과 같은 세계적인 소설가, 극작가들과 그들의 문학적경향에 대한 평가에서도 마찬가지로 이런 면모를 보여준다. 작가이며 번역자인 김광주가 각별한 열정으로 <晨報>의 문예란을 통해 중국의 현대문단과독자들에게 서양문학을 소개, 전파한 것은 나름의 세계문학교류사적 의의가 있다.
