This article seeks the possibility of reshaping contemporary Christian education rooted in hermeneutic-communicative approach to practical theology. To achieve this goal, the article first explores the rationality of modern practical theology and its problematics. This will be a discussion of theological encyclopedia and modern rationality. This article then examines Jürgen Habermas’s “communicative rationality” or “rationality as argumentation” and Tracy’s “theology as public discourse for public realm” as the alternative rational and theological orientation both to modern rationality revealed in theological encyclopedia and to the current crisis of the privatization of Christian faith and praxis. Next, this article finds an alternative model of practical theology in dialogue with Johannes van der Ven’s hermeneu-tic-communicative approach. In van der Ven’s approach, hermeneutic-communicative praxis is considered as the basis of practical theology and practical theology is as hermeneutic-communicative. Taking all these discussions into consideration, this article proposes hermeneutic-communicative approach to Christian education focusing on 1) rationality in Christian education, 2) goal in Christian education, 3) contents in Christian education, 4) theory and practice in Christian education, and 5) educational field in Christian education, followed by concluding remarks.

근대 연구 대학의 맥락에서 전문화된 학문 분야로 자리를 잡게 된 이후로 실천신학은 근대적 합리성, 특히 신학백과사전의 합리성에 기초하여 일종의 응용신학(applied theology)으로 간주되었고, 이 러한 전통은 오늘날에도 여전히 통용되고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 응 용신학으로서의 실천신학에 대하여 해석학적-의사소통적 접근을 대 안으로 간주하고 이에 기초한 오늘의 대안적 기독교교육의 가능성을 모색한다.이를 위하여 먼저 위르겐 하버마스(Jürgen Habermas), 데이빗 트레이시(David Tracy), 그리고 요하네스 밴더밴 사이의 대 화를 시도한다. 먼저 오늘 날까지 실천신학에서 큰 영향력을 발휘하 고 있는 신학백과사전에서 나타나는 근대적 합리성의 문제를 추적하 고, 대안으로 하버마스의 “의사소통 행위이론”에 기초한 의사소통적 합리성을 제안한다. 신학적으로는 오늘의 사사화된 기독교 신앙과 실천에 대한 대안으로 트레이시의 공적영역(public realm)을 위한 공적 담화(public discourse)로서의 공공신학 이해에 대하여 논의 한다. 이어서 밴더벤의 해석학적-의사소통적 모델의 실천신학에 기 초하여 근대적 패러다임을 넘어서는 새로운 패러다임의 실천신학을 모색한다. 그는 해석학적-의사소통적 프락시스는 실천신학의 토대이며, 실천신 학은 해석학적-의사소통적 과정이라고 주장한다. 이상 의 논의들에 기초하여 본 연구의 마지막 부분에서는 기독교교육의 1) 합리성, 2) 목적, 3) 교육 내용, 4) 이론-실천, 5) 현장 등에 초점을 맞추어서 대안적 형태의 기독교교육을 해석학적-의사소통적 관점에 서 제안한다.
