Any contemplation over the current state and future development of traditional Korean martial arts should start with the changes of viewpoints and environments. There will be no future for the Korean traditional martial arts without their transmission and succession. This study thus set out to analyze the various problems of Korean traditional martial arts and search for plans to activate them. The analysis results of problems with the Korean traditional martial arts were as follows: first, there were problems with the establishment of their theoretical science; second, martial arts organizations were formed in a random and reckless manner; third, they lacked traditionality due to a focus on matches and commercialization; fourth, there was a shortage of interest in the traditional martial arts; and fifth, there were not enough events to promote the traditional martial arts. The study proposed the following activation plans to solve them: first, there should be ongoing researches to build a theoretical and academic foundation for the traditional martial arts and an educational institution to increase the academic capabilities of instructors of traditional martial arts. Second, there is a need to integrate and distinguish all kinds of martial arts organizations that have been set up recklessly. Third, it is important to transmit and succeed the traditionality of Korean traditional martial arts through the cooperation of UNESCO and the active support of the government. Fourth, various promotional methods should be explored to increase people's interest in the traditional martial arts. Finally, various events should continue to be held to promote the traditional martial arts of Korea.

한국 전통무예의 현주소와 앞으로 어떻게 발전해야 하는가는 시각의 변화와 환경의 변화에서부터 시작되어야 한다. 한국 전통무예의 미래는 후세에 전승, 계승되지 않으면 사라지게 될 것이다. 따라서 이 연구는 한국 전통무예 가 가지고 있는 여러 가지 문제점을 분석하고 한국 전통무예의 활성화 방안을 모색하는데 그 목적이 있다. 한국 전통 무예의 문제점을 분석하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이론적 학문 정립의 문제점, 둘째, 무분별한 무예 단체의 난립, 셋째, 경기화와 상업화로 인한 전통성 결여, 넷째, 전통무예에 대한 관심 부족, 다섯째, 전통무예를 알릴 수 있는 이벤트 부족 등이 있다. 이를 해결하기 위한 활성화 방안은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국 전통무예의 이론 및 학문적 토대를 구축하 기 위해 지속적인 연구가 수행되어야 하며 전통무예 지도자들의 학술적 역량 향상을 위한 교육기관이 반드시 필요하다. 둘째, 무분별하게 난립된 각종 무예 단체들의 통합 및 구분이 필요하다. 셋째, UNESCO의 협조와 정부의 적극적인 지원 으로 전통성을 전승․계승시켜 나가야 할 것이다. 넷째, 다양한 홍보 방법을 모색하여 전통무예의 관심을 고취시킬 방안 을 마련해야할 것이다. 다섯째, 한국의 전통무예를 알릴 수 있는 다양한 이벤트를 지속적으로 개최해야 할 것이다.
